    Factory Dinlop Sport 69mpg(48k to 2mm)

    Dunlop Blue Response 67 mpg (19k to 3mm)

    Continental Eco Contact 73mpg (23k to 3mm)

    Continental Premium contact 58mpg (8k still looking new)

    It's pretty much the same journey 75% of the time. The premium contacts are awesome in the wet but not 20% for someone who does 25k ish per year.

    I do 146 miles per day commuting to and from the office and sadly its a salaried job that doesnt have overtime....just TOIL if your lucky enough to get it signed off.

    So the time cost could be a factor, although from what I am being told its only really getting the oil that takes up the time as the kit I put up earlier can be set off on a timer so done overnight...or left to it for a few hours.

    I have oil burning central heating so it could always come in useful for that too.

    I have also been looking into the waste products and these seem to be recylclable too ie to make briquettes/logs for the fire/burner.

    From what I have found out from hunting around the internet the past few nights is that the VAG 1900 SDi engine is suitable...so long as it has a Bosch Pump......so was thinking a nice MK1 Fabia or even a felicia to start with.

    As mine is only just over a year old and still with 4 years warranty left I think I leave my own with Dino for now.

    Yeah, as I said a friend has a production kit and he gets all his oil from his nearest chippy for free.... As it costs to take away.

    2278 @ £1.45 = £3303.10.... Compared to 2278 @ £o.25 = £569.50

    £2733 difference!

    Estate Man, from what I have found (Internet research... Including scholarly articles) the reason that the fuel filter clogs is due to the cleansing of the system due to the slightly more acidic oil, not the oil itself, unles you haven't filtered it from the fryer. A lot if the research suggests only upto a 5-10% drop in power & 5-6% drop in fuel economy when using over 30% mixes.

    Really interested to hear anything about how the DPF would be affected by this type of fuel.

    I wonder if you can help?

    I am looking to find out if the 1.2 TDi will run on processed Biodiesel?

    Th reason I ask is that I do over 30k per year and with prices at nearly £1.50 here in NI I am seriously looking for an alternative....also a friend has one of these and runs his 1.9 SDI fabia on between 50 (winter) and 100% (summer) with no problems.

    Especially when hes producng it for about 20p per litre and running his home heating oil on it!

My apologes if this has been covered before, however I am looking at geting a GPS tracking system for my car, as I do nearly 30000 miles per year and need to break all of the journeys down for the taxman/work...which takes me an absolute age every month....and from what I have heard is not accountable to the Taxman.

    I am looking at getting something that tracks my location, time and distnace travelled....however it would have to be able to hold the information for about 4 weeks and not just the 8 hours that some of the cameras hold.

    Any thoughts?

  6. You should try living in Northern Ireland! When I first moved over three years ago my insurance trebled, even though I moved into a safe residential area rather than a main road.

    I have been quotes in the region of £600 for a GL2 Estate and I have 9 years NCB and no convictions!!!!

    Right rip off over here, it really surprises me how all the we scummers can afford the cars that they have.

I would agree the estate is a better option, however as a greenline estate owner I would say that although I returned 57mpg on a recent trip to Dublin 170 ish miles) with 4 less than athletic mates & golf clubs it wasn't quick off the mark..... But it is only a 1.2 diesel. The rest of the time it's very very good without the extra load of my nearest & dearest

    I've done 20k in the first 8 months of having mine (having a 130 ish mile round trip to work). I have been averaging mid 70s on my daily commute.... With a tank of 92mpg on a trip to Dublin... My best tank previous was 83.

    Removing the aerial will only reduce it about 5%.... If your removing that then I would recomend taking off the roof bars, ensuring the tyres are pumped up, the car is empty, you only too up with as much fuel as you need & you change the wing mirrors.... You should get a decent return then. The rest is down to your driving and the road conditions

  9. I'll keep my answer short as there are other threads on this topic.

    I have had mine since January and have put on 19k so far, mainly (over 75%) has been done on rural A roads, both in the north and south of Ireland. Overall I am averaging 71mpg, which includes a number of thrashings when I have slept in or are late. I have averaged early 80smpg per tank a number of times and regularly average mid 80s driving from Lisburn to coleraine through Belfast.

    I use Bp ultimate as it gives me a few extra mpg that out ways the extra cost. I also get the nectar points by the bucket load.

    The car has enough oomph to keep you out of trouble but not really enough to keep up with the red light racers.

    I'm 6.5 and find it very comfortable to drive, having none of the back pain I got from my old avensis. Passengers still have loads of room behind me too (within reaso).

    I also find it cavernous inside.

    I have added a few we extras like sunglasses holder, under seat storage & arm rest. They wernt needed but just helped me out and fitted them myself.

    There have been a couple of recalls for software to do with the stop start, however my dealer (mullholland) were spot on about it.

    The only thing I regret not getting was the warranty upgrade (not sure why i didnt)better stereo (unavailable as an option at the time) and the maxidot panel.

    I love mine and happily put up with the slagging over the reputation they have over here of being traditionally driven by members of the traveller community.

  10. I've asked on a few threads what owners are getting at motorway speeds 70 to 75mph indicated and the common response is just over 50mpg

    Looks like you need to drop with the lorries at 55 to 60mph to get towards 70mpg.

    For someone like me who uses the motorway network daily that isn't great for an economy special. It's easily beaten by bigger engined more aerodynamic cars in the VAG range.

    I think the greenline is great for urban and A road use but not best suited for higher speed motorw

    I would disagree with that, although I don't regularly get above 70mph in mine, I am fairly regularly sitting between 60-65 (mainly due to traffic) and get way more than 50... I have to really thrash mine to get it to drop below 60mph on my 67 mile trip to work.

    I would say that the lower mpg is down to driver rather than car... As I had a Octavia when mine was in for a service and found that once at cruising speed it was showing 70 ish... But even think of touching the power and I'd plumeted.

    I don't generally sit for long at those speeds (mainly as i can rarely get a clear run on the roads i drive on) however I did thrash mine last weekend.... Was running very late.... 67 miles in just under 55 mins.... Averaged 52! On a roads & 20 of miles of dual/motorway.

    Why would you turn off the stop start?

  12. I would Definetly recomend a greenline. I've had my estate since January & put 12000 ish on it since then. I have a commute of 70 miles to work on half Aroads & half motorway.

    I used an app called road trip to log every time I fill up. Over all I'm averaging 73, however for the first 6k this was nearer 65mpg, since then I have been averaging nearly 80 (79.4mpg). It did take me a while to learn to drive this car to get the best out of it and to switch from cheap Irish diesel (my work takes me close to the border a number of times per month) to BP ultimate.... And keeping my tyres at the maximum preasure in the manual.

    I don't really slipstream lorries etc, as although my mpg skyrocketed, I found it fairly dangerous & ended up shattered due to the concentration.

    I generally sit about 25-30m back from lorries and find it helps with out a. Annoying the driver in front b. being dangerous & c. I'm not as tired when I get to work.

  13. I live in the north but do a lot of work around the border area, so pop over alot to fill up... As it use to be about 20% cheaper... I have never seen anything other than standard petrol or diesel. As I now run a GL2 it's worth my while to fill up over the border, being 18p/l cheaper than the local maxol & texaco... No such thing as optimax here..... I will say that I've found no difference between normal derv in the republic & the Bp ultimate up north.... The republics derv is far cleaner IMHO.

    Your cars ecu should adjust after the first few miles.
