  1. Car has done 108000 miles using 5w/40 fully synthetic vw 502.00/505.00 Changing oil and filter every 10000 miles or 12 months which ever comes first I do about 9000 miles a year
  2. My 2007 1.6 FSI will now and then rattle from engine for a few seconds start up then go ok only when engine cold and not ran for at least 8 hours. It doesn't do it all the time in fact it is can go months without doing it.
  3. Cant I just buy two new plastic parts and line the glass up with the corresponding holes and push the plastic retainers in without having to drill out rivets and removing inner metal door panel?
  4. What size drill is required and what size are the new rivets (diameter and length)? Also which rivets require removing? cheers.
  5. Hi have a problem the front passenger window is not attached to the regulator. I have removed the interior door trim and the rubber grommets and the motor will drive the regulator up and down. I can push the window down so the holes in both the regulator and the glass is lined up where the holes are with the grommets removed what part is missing so the glass is connected to the regulator ? and do I need to remove the inner door panel (drill out pop rivets ) to repair?
  6. is the brake unit ok now? also the handbrake not sticking? Sounds like a bearing, have you jacked the wheels up to see if any tight or feeling rough when you turn by hand? Was the disc changed , was the calliper freed off properly its so hard to get all this info down correct
  7. just as above, its just not been clicked back in place after service easily forgotten to do. As long as they remembered to put the sump plug back in correctly Not a laughing matter really I remember a few years ago my brother noticing a bolt on the drive after reversing off, he had his clutch done and the casing bolts had not been tightened up.
  8. Did you have wheel bearings adjusted the same time as tracking? If too tight this can cause problems. Also simple check to see if you have a problem with brakes or wheel bearings is to jack them up one after the other and spin by hand if any are tight. there should be some resistance but you may find one is tight compared to others start your investigation from there. A seized brake would not damage the wheel bearings but a wheel bearing (even if no play) can be on its way out.
  9. I think it's since the tracking was done that the noise started. All the wheel bearings seem to be sound, no play etc. Could it be that having the tracking now aligned, that the tyres make more noise? It sort of sounds like that noise you get from off road bobbly tyres, if you know what I mean? On smooth new tar it's seems louder, and on louder, older surfaces it seems quieter. But maybe it's just less noticeable with the increase in the normal road noise. So the noise started when you had the tracking done. So it must be the tracking not done correctly?
  10. Cheers but all sorted now set of four fitted and running sweet again
  11. Hi thanks to all for your help I swapped number 4 coil pack with number 2 coil pack and cleared the fault before firing up to see if the suspect coil pack was faulty , after scanning for faults again it then showed number 2 cylinder miss fire so found euro car spares having sale on over bank holiday up to 50% off. I got a set of four of the more expensive ones (made by Bougicord) for less than £80 (with free delivery), which was 30% discount to normal price, no need to put discount code in its already priced up with discount. The offer ends today so have a look if your thinking of buying something you may need soon or in future, it seems they have these sales on at bank holidays so pass the word and look out for it again. You can also sign up for email alerts when they have offers on, might be of use to you one day.
  12. Ok will change all four I'm keeping this car for the long term what are the best to buy? It will be worth it in the long run. Any recommendations or ones to steer clear of? The rubber insulation that split was inside the coil pack that grips the spark plug white ceramic after only 50k not great
  13. After service including plugs changed number 4 has miss fire when I checked the coil pack rubber insulation has split in half I take it this will cause the miss fire and I need a new coil pack is this the main reason for coil pack failure? (error code came up as p0304 number 4 cylinder miss fire)
  14. Are you using a socket or spanner to try to undo it? Can you see the plug turning?? or just by the feel of it you think the plug is turning and turning. You may have a worn socket or spanner or the hexagonal head of the plug is rounded off so it feels like the plug is turning around and around but it may be the socket/spanner slipping on the plug. Make sure you can see the plug itself turning. We play tricks on new lads starting out and tell them to take a bolt out with a well worn socket but they dont know its worn/useless (so they can't see the head of the bolt not turning) after a while of failing we tell them to stand aside while we show them how to do it (distracting them while swapping the worn socket for a good one) and whip the bolt out quick then pass back the wrench (distracting them again while we put the worn socket back on) and tell them to try the next one. It realy is cruel but very very funny to watch them.
  15. I must stand corrected then if the salt marks scuffed, either way he can't park, he can't open his boot, he can't open his back door with any sort of care (so thats why doors at car parks get dinged). What the hell does he drive like on the open road???
  16. If it just turns and turns then its bad I would be worried about driving it. Get it sorted straight away. Get a new sump and plug and washer. No point damaging a new sump with an old/ damaged plug. Dont overtighten plug take it easy you dont need to be heavy handed if your not sure ask some one here near to you to show you. Check your oil level to make sure you dont have a small leak it may only drip when engine running with any pressure/ heat increase.
  17. I used this http://www.car-supermarkets.com/ lots of car supermarkets on one site. Look on the left side and also click on other car supermarkets on the list on left side
  18. You may laugh but I got into racing on an MZ http://www.bmzrc.org.uk/ I wanted to race where it didnt matter how much money you had it was down to ability and this was it. This was the skoda version of a motorbike from old if you know what i mean. I did Snetterton, Cadwell,Mallory,Pembry,Three sisters was my fave as it was designed as a race cart track so all the big heavy fast bikes lost out if they couldnt ride for toffy around tight twitsy bends with only one short straight. Looking at these latest bikes they have allowed a lot more mods to be done to them since I raced. We couldnt have slick tyres or tuned race pipes or change the original drum brakes fors discs or spoked wheels for alloys. But time marches on. I used to enter open class as well where any thing goes that was fun, some guy on a blinged up cbr 600 getting cut up by a rat bike mz on the bends cos they were scared of laying it down, they would of course blast past on the long staights. Loads of great memories of getting faster laps till I stuffed it and got back on for more. My dad booked a track experience day at Three sisters for me in a 4wd subaru impreza and instructor told me to slow down untill I explained I raced here on an mz.
  19. No and I'm not a star either but I do own a reasonably priced car I was a bit nuts years ago I used to be more at home on two wheels and raced all over uk but now I have my trusty skoda. Not got the slippers and pipe yet though.
  20. No wonder there are no marks on your car if you run it slow you will see he puts his right hand behind his back and to his left buttock then turns tight next to his own car, he then wedges his bag under his own car rear end and has to back it up and direct it away from his own car to free it off he's probably got a nice scuff on his own rear bumper at that pace. As for the parking thats bad its like hes not used to driving it and as for the glance at his own boot it looks to me like its a hire car or borrowed/just bought it and he has no idea how to open it after pressing remote,..... hence the reason he walked to rear in the first place. Check out how long the handle is and how low down the top of the bag is as he carries on to the rear door, it deffo wedged under his own Also watch repeatedly and carefully at the rear left lense of his car where it lines up with the white markings on the floor you will see its his car that moves as he hits his own bumper, put the mouse cursor on the part of the video just before you hear the bump and keep pressing it over and over while watching his left clear lense. you will see the same thing happen but a lot more when he fully opens his back door too hard If he had bumped your car it would have shown up as a shake in the video but absolutely nothing twitched. If I was you I'd remove it from utube.
  21. I did a track day a few years back around anglesey track with a company called http://bookatrack.com/ in my then 1.8sri corsa (it was 0nly 4 months old at the time) had a blast but make sure to take advice on putting extra air in the tyres especially the front (I didn't). I shredded the two front before dinner and had to drive home on bald tyres (one third of the outer edges was bald/ripped) and you couldn't see any writing and I mean nothing left of the continental 16" blah blah blah on the side wall. I don't know how far off I was from popping them off the rims but I was just throwing it all over the shop with black smoke everywhere on all slower corners. At the end of the straight I was clocking just under 100 mph and a quick stomp on the brakes before turning in, apparently people watching would wait to see me coming and p themselves as they would hear all four tyres screaming all the way around the first long sweeping bend The safety marshalls where crying with laughter. My mate was in a lotus elise and he kept spinning off with the rear wheel drive but loads of run off onto grass we jumped into the passenger seat of each others car to see how we compared I was crying with laughter every time he spun his lotus off. But he only lasted two laps next to me in my corsa wanting to get out, shouting very loudly something about being nuts. So I've been there done it and its a blast I would deffo recommend it.
  22. I spoke to the dealer I bought it from again today and he said it should be covered under the Warranty I got with the car. They said they had the fault looked at after I test drove it and it came up with a fault about something electronic being out of range or not within paramiters. Possibly due to car battery being low voltage with it not being used for around 4 weeks, causing the light to come on???/ But the Skoda dealer I took it to said it needed the airbag in the side of the drivers seat replacing. I take it these are two different faults. Any way warranty company wont cover replacing the air bag in the seat (he was very surprised as they never normally develop a fault) but they suggested I get the skoda dealer to phone them and clarify it. To be fair the dealer I bought it from has been helpfull (so far) and has paid skoda nearly £70 so far out of their own money to check and reset the light Why would they get different faults showing?
  23. I used to race motor bikes racing all over the country and I would wipe the floor with you all. Its all about corner speed carried (entry and exit very critical) even though i have the 1.6 fsi octavia you all wouldn't stand a chance. BUT... I have a problem with my air bag warning light and her indoors said I cant take all her and the 3 kids in it on the track at the same time so unless I get it sorted the winner would have only been the first loser.
  24. What would you do? I bought a skoda Octavia (07 plate) 46k on clock full service history from non skoda dealer when I test drove it I noticed the air bag light on and asked the dealer what it meant as this is my first skoda I wasnt sure he said it was to show it was on and working. I paid a deposit and untill I sold my old car private he would store the skoda for me. When i picked the car up (a few weeks later) the light came on half way home (I didnt notice the light was not on as per why the dealer said it should be after the test drive) I read the hand book and realised the light meant there was a fault with the air bag system. Spoke to dealer and he said put it into local skoda dealer by me and he would pay for it to be fixed BUT........that I should get the skoda dealer to phone him to ok payment. When I picked the car up after being fixed the skoda dealer said they found no faults with wiring so they reset light, but if the fault re-occurs it will need an o/s/front seat air bag unit fitting costing £280.00 would this show on a fault code? So 14 days later the light came on again so arranged to take back to same skoda dealer near me and for them to phone the dealer i bought it from. The dealer i bought it from said no to the skoda dealer for the £280 for airbag replacement unit. obviously the dealer I bought it from had the light reset after my test drive as i now know it wont do this itself. I phoned the skoda dealer that the car came from new and asked about any work on my car and they said they reset light in 2008 and sister company carried out an airbag repair 18/10/11 (looks like wires repaired under driver seat) What do i do now?
