  1. Hi Ian, sorry to contact you out of the blue, but I've just posted this message on the Forum.  Was wondering if you could help with the VCDS or give me some advice on the battery issue.  Cheers!

My son's Citigo suddenly failed to start a couple of days after a 120m run.  Dash lights still came on and windows work, but no power to turn the motor over.  Used jump leads to check that it was not the starter motor or something else, started immediately.  On getting home, would not start again but windows worked (slowly).

The main questions/observations are as follows:

    1.  At no time did the battery light appear on the dash and there was no yellow colour on the battery 'window'.

    2.  Am I correct in thinking that a new battery really has to be recoded to the car, as per Aubrey's post a few years ago.

    3.  I'd like to avoid dealers or garages so, is it easy to download the software and obtain the hardware to do this myself.

There are a couple of VCDS guys near me in Wakefield, one in Wakefield itself  and the other in Pontefract.  Would be happy to contact them if they can help.

    Cheers all!

No problem Ian, thanks for getting back to me.  I'll do some more investigation around the forums, but I appreciate your response.

No worries. If you find a 'how to' guide then I'm happy to see if we can implement it on the car 👍

Cheers mate, that's really kind of you.  I'll be in touch with what I find to see if it's something doable.

  2. Had the symptoms of rapid temp gain/fall on my 2015 2.0tdi Octavia estate for the first time about a month ago, repeated several times over the next few weeks so bit the bullet and booked it into main dealer today - they confirmed the pump was duff so replaced it and the cambelt. Mileage currently 89k. They didn’t charge me for the diagnostic but paid full price (529) for pump and belt change. Bought car a year ago from an independent dealer so no warranty.
  3. Thanks for the link Mike, after a while typing in the option codes, it turns out that '6Y0' is indeed cruise control without warning system. Interesting also that GO2 is 'front shock absorption' - I'm glad they stipulated that on the original order!
  4. Thanks for all the replies. Where do you search for the option codes? The car has an original maxidot display so presumably comes into the 'non-activated' bracket.
  5. True, very true! It's the only car I think I've ever seen of any make that has the indicator on the dash and yet it's not wired in. Not to worry I guess!
  6. Evening all Firstly a big global 'thanks' to everyone who puts excellent technical help on here, it's an invaluable source of hints and tips! Secondly does anyone know if the lack of a cruise control warning light on a '54 mk2 octavia can be remedied easily? I'm amazed it was ever designed that way and it's a bit disconcerting not to have any indication that the system is active, especially when mine has the odd day when it decides not to work. (I need to try the switch cleaning trick to see if that helps) Thanks, Ian
  7. Hi folks, recently joined the Octavia ranks. Had a Greenline II until October as a company car then changed jobs so bought a '54 1.9. So far so good - local dealer has been very helpful. Even they were surprised by the lack of a bulb in the cruise control socket on the dash though! Cheers, Ian
