  1. engine: 1.8T VRS Type: Mk1 Octavia VRS Estate Mileage:250000 Cambelt changed 3 times Manual 5 speed Gearbox oil changed X times 0 Any other major work done? Sump got cracked so replaced it and oil pump at the same time @ 180k. Other than that all still original clutch, turbo and after some surgery, the exhaust.
  2. I had a swimming pool I’m mine last year. After all the usual invest, checking drain holes in doors and the scuttle ect and making a water removing attachment for my vacuum cleaner it turned out to be the main electrical loom seal in the bottom of the scuttle above the steering column. Think the wiper assembly had to come out for access. The connection is held in by two nuts in the middle and guess it bowed slightly and the gasket hardened. Removed and cleaned it, seam sealed it and now dry as a bone. Takes forever to dry out though even with a vax type vacuum.
  3. 292000 miles👍 My VRS is 245000 now, still all original components 😬
  4. 143500 and still going strong fingers crossed
  5. That’s about 150,000 miles so plenty of life left hopefully. So many variables that either help or hinder so good luck.
  6. Now at 239,000! Repaired the original back box and centre mount. Got the original Head unit out the loft and installed a 6cd changer as it had been robbed before it was auctioned! Sorted some rust on the tailgate and refusing the need to sell her as now have another big estate. We’re stuffed for room at the moment so would anyone be interested in her with a years ticket for £750? Loads of history ect.

  8. My 2003 Mk1 Octavia VRS Estate went past 234567 the other month, still original engine, turbo and gearbox. Regular fluid changes and an oil pump change while i changed the cracked sump have helped. The std exhaust cracked off so just a plain pipe wedged on at the moment, cos I'm tight I will weld it back together though Seeing fewer and fewer out on the open road now days.
  9. 2003 20v Turbo VRS Estate, same engine, gearbox and clutch now on 224,000 miles. Back box fell off last month, is it still under warranty? Done a few sets of pads, discs and front wheel bearings along the way. Also been my tow-car when I was racing. Still goes well and I always used Halfords fully synthetic oil so it can't be too bad. Oil consumption is still pretty good considering the thrashing it gets up and down the A14. Wife, Fabia VRS driver, wants me to get rid of as it's old but the kids won't let me change the old war horse so let's see if it'll make 300K.
  10. Mine failed just like yours. The small braided strap between the solenoid and the brushes had corroded through until it couldn't take the current and blew like a fuse. Soldered a replacement length in with a powerful soldering iron. A bit fiddly getting the brushes back in but good as gold again. Hope this helps.
  11. My 2003 Octavia VRS Estate suffered a coil pack failure a few weeks ago. Diagnosed it using the old laptop and everything was sweet as I'd been given a spare one by a mate who part Xd his Cupra R and had bought a spare post the first recall. When I bought the car in 2006 I checked mine had been done and they were all REV L. The other day I was giving it some beans, embarrassing some more expensive jelly molds and suddenly the power dipped followed by a flashing ECL and an horrendous juddering misfire. Limped home and got a P0300-35-00 multiple misfire code. Checked all the plugs and no 4 was all wet. Then thanks to this forum I found out about the second coil pack recall, so phoned Vindis of Bury St Edmunds. They checked the vehicle details on the system and said straight away, bring it in that afternoon they'll do it for free under the recall. Luckily I'd kept the old 'L' from a couple of weeks ago so all four replaced and now have a spare again. One word of warning though, as they wouldn't just hand me the new packs in exchange I had to drive the 16 miles there in a car that was missing so badly I could only just coax 40 out of it. When I got there I could smell something burning and upon looking under the car was amazed to see the cat GLOWING BRIGHT RED! the tarmac was smoking and after 5 minutes fanning it with a Haynes Manual (finally found a use for it) I could relax. Now the car is sowing machine smooth again and the slight ticking on the radio has disappeared. Thanks again to all who have posted before.
