  1. I've got the famous rusty rear disc problem. The swept band is only about 3/4" wide! I was told at MOT that it wasn't an issue, as long as they work. I would like to know who make the originals and which are the best replacements?
  2. I stuck to Minors for near 30 yrs, great cars then but by mid/late 90s they were all rotten. I still have nightmares when I think of all those M4 trips at 65-70, abysmal brakes and that 'lance' of a steering column waiting to pierce your chest. "...they don't make 'em like they used to.." thankfully. I still mourn my beautiful 2000 Octy, what a car! - even over present Yeti.
  3. Obviously as you say right at the beginning: "..not for the faint hearted"! BUT is a U/S cigarette lighter connected in any way with the problem you've tackled here? No I don't smoke, but use an electric tyre pump, which makes the socket pretty necessary.
  4. My winder cables are fine, and I have a new (VAG) nylon connector clip for the slide, BUT a): I can't compress the springs enough to give adequate free cable to pop the ferrules into the connector. : How do I connect the galss bracket to the nylon connector? I have a small white nylon clip which came out of the old cheap plastic connector, but can't see where it goes. Am I missing a bit? I think I may need a modified glass bracket. Any help greatly appreciated, many thanks in hope!
  5. Please can anyone idenify this part? It was lurking inside the bottom of the rear n/s door when removing the regulator mechanism. I think I heard it drop!
  6. Where is the best place to get hold of this repair kit please?
  7. Well Newbie, this is now a year on and I've got the same problem, so I'm wondering how/if you solved it? I have real problems navigating this site, and I can't re-find the thread where 'cliffe-lloyd'? gave us a pdf step-by-step guide.
  8. We have an Octavia Estate 2000 (W), getting on a bit, but we are only the second owners, it's very clean and lowish mileage (109,000). I love it (it's chipped, and when asked goes like stink!), it's easily the best car I've ever owned, and probably one of the best I've ever driven. Which is quite a few because I used to drive for Esso Research on fuel testing. Right now I'm looking for a solution to a locked and un-unlockable tailgate. I don't think it's to do with the central locking which although going haywire occasionally, I've successfully re-programmed and seems to work fine. Except on the boot. With the key I can't turn completely anti-clockwise, and I have shot WD40 into the lock! From inside the car there is no access of any kind to the lock, no emergency safety procedure as suggested on the blog. I've read all the postings re this problem, but am baffled as to how I remove the trim panel for access to the lock, from inside. On the floor of the boot to the rear, the lip of the opening has plastic trim with 6 phillips screws. Do I try to remove this? Lower down at the rear of the spare wheel chamber there are 2 circular rubber grommets. Are these anything to do with it? Any ideas?
