  1. Picked up a six foot Ercol refectory table in the Fabia mk1 estate. Bit of a squeeze but could you do that in a Roomster?

  3. Thanks for suggestions. Fluid, battery and fuses were all ok. Turns out that the pump was faulty - ouch!! It was ok when cold but when warmed up through use refused to restart after a brief switch off, ok when cooled down. With the new pump fitted the steering is fine but the ps indicator light stays on. I'm told that a diagnosis (G250 I think)suggests a steering angle sensor fault, something that was not bringing the light on with the old pump running ok. Is the sensor really at fault, could it be the connecting cable to the pump or does the pump need recoding? Thanks for your comments. Peter.
  4. Hi All, Power steering is fine when starting out each day. Problem is that when engine is switched off for short time, e.g. fuelling, on switching on the ignition (not starting engine) the usual pump noise is missing and the ps light stays on. It remains so and without any power assistance until the ignition has been off for an hour or so when system is normal again. Occasionally the pump starts up after a short distance travelled and everything is normal until engine is switched off again. The fluid level is normal and electrical connections seem secure. Does anybody have any ideas on this one? Many thanks for any suggestions. Peter.
  5. My Fabia Elegance does not like the recent cold weather. The Akuma UM5 battery shows 12.02 volts before engine running. At 1000 and 3000 rpm it shows 14.4 volts. This is after an overnight trickle charge to assure am starting. After switch off the voltage fades from12.9 to 12.02 or thereabouts. I have in mind a Bosch S4008 replacement so to replace or not to replace? - that is the question.
  6. Fixed! Just a note for anyone reading this thread - to avoid this problem use release handle when returning seat to upright position. The rod connection is fragile and will not suffer heavy-handedness for long..
  7. Thanks again. I managed to remove the rectangular bit in the seat by - brute force, complete with the other parts. This revealed two holes and by shining a led torch down one and peering down the other I was able to release the seat with the hooked coat hanger wire. The other seat latch mechanism helped me identify the part to pull. New parts have been ordered for tomorrow so all should be soon back in order.
  8. Thanks trundlenut for your reply. I can't get to the latch as it's hidden by the pillar so I'm going for the guide in the seat top. There seems to be two legs securing the thing but I can't see how to release them to prise out the guide. Do they lock somewhere? Thanks for your patience.
  9. The 'pull to release' lever on the rear seat is not working. It's just slack. How do I release the guide molding from the top of the seat please? I assume that once I gain access to the locking mechanism a hooked wire, e.g.coat hanger, will facilitate unlocking the seat and thus gain access to replace the lever.
  10. Hi all, After reading threads on air con for the Fabia I have come to the conclusion that if the vapour sensor is faulty then the air con should work for a short period before it stops doing so. If there is no air con or only a drop of a couple of degrees (measured) the a recharge is probably required. Is this a reasonable conclusion assuming no other faults be present? By the way does the Elegance 1.9 diesel estate have wear sensor(s) on the rear brake pads? Thanks for reading, Peter.
  11. Took my Elegance 1.9tdi Estate in for a quick check on an ESP fault - light came on and stayed on for no apparent reason the switch making no difference. Technician diagnosed a broken wire from alternator and fixed it while I waited and drank free cofee! The car is two weeks under three years old so the repair was done under warranty. BTW the car was originally supplied by them to the first owner but I bought it from a dealer in Leeds three weeks ago. No problem just good service. Thanks DMK.
  12. When engine was running a hissing noise could be heard from the first coupling on the exhaust system - due to the high pressure! That led to checking the tailpipe emissions and very little was coming out.
  13. Eventually lost power altogether. Engine started then immediately stopped. I was baffled. Err... actually it turned out to be the middle exhaust box that had "de-baffled" i.e. collapsed and the rubbish had blocked the system. Clue was that the plugs kept sooting up - nowhere for exhaust to go! Thanks for your replies and thoughts about the problem. Peter
  14. Felicia 1.6slxi suddenly lost most of it's power whilst climbing a hill. I was reduced to first gear until I reached level ground. Now the engine jerks whilst accelerating or decelerating and is very sluggish and still lacking power. Any suggestions please? Peter.
