  1. There is a very useful free program called CC Cleaner which will declutter and even defrag if you ask it to.It is easily tuneable to your requirement and will get rid of all the old History files etc.It will also safely remove programs of your chioice. Not complicated and definitely worth a try befor you reload.

  2. The questions are. How will it effect your no claim bonus and how much is your excess. Unfortunately it could be more costly in the long run to claim rather than bite the bullet and pay for the damage.Unfortunately that's how insurance companies make their millions.

  3. Hi all, Took off a little too quickly on a cold morning before the windscreen had demisted and as I was wiping it with my hand my signet ring stone left two small but noticible scratches on the glass. Nothing major but annoying when my eyes focus on them. They are not deep scratches and barely register when I run a thumbnail over them. I've done extensive searches as to how these might be removed. I'm thinking of trying jewellers rouge, a powder which you mix into a paste and is used by jewellers to remove scratches from watch faces. I know people have used this successfully on windscreen glass. Just wondering if anyone in the Skoda family has had a similar problem and what their solution might be. I know there are lots of kits out there which use compounds with a rotary drill to get wiper scrapes out of glass, but that would be a sledgehammer to crack this particular nut. Many thanks in advance...and no...I don't intend taking a claw hammer to the problem either to get the windscreen replaced : ) A. PS - some time since I've been on the forum, but two years into ownership and the Superb ranks as possibly the best car I've ever owned.

Brasso or toothpaste with a soft cloth. But be VERY gentle and if the scratches are not removed easily and quickly stop immediately or you will make it worse. If they don't come out then methinks professional help required.

  4. Now it has finally turned cold I can't wind down my windows in the morning for about 10 minutes after the car has started as they have frozen in the runners . Whats the best method to prevent this ?   Although I have had several new cars in the last 30 years its the first time I have had this problem unless it was about -10c, but its only barely freezing at the moment and its starting to annoy me.

A smidgen of vaseline on the window edges should do the trick.Same on door rubbers, stops the sticking and damage of door rubbers in the icy conditions.

  5. You can check the scuttle drain hole without taking the cover off. Take torch or leadlight and look between the scuttle edge and wing. There is just enough space to see if the drain hole is blocked. You can scrape out the gunge and very gently push a length of wire or thin plastic pipe down the drain hole to clear. Then pour water in with a jug or similar and check drainage at the bottom of the wheel arch. This is only a check not the solution. You will still have to remove the cover to do a proper clean out but at least you will know if it is blocked to begin with. Good luck.

  6. Had the same problem. Managed to clean out the drain hole in the scuttle without removing the cover but still concerned about that stupid bonnet cable grommet. I will silicone that asap. No leaks so far. I found the best to mop up were cheap absorbent nappies which contain the water unlike sponges etc.I packed them in and left overnight with a weight on they soaked up a great deal of the water. Then a fan heater set on low for a few days seemed to do the trick. The whole thing is badly designed and should have been altered in manufacture years ago.

  7. The leak is back !  :(  Same time of year and same venue (Butlins) I know, some will say it serves me right for going there in the first place but there you are. Car stood out in the heavy rain and water in the drivers footwel and also rear footwell. Anyway, put cheap nappies on the floor and drove home. Eventually found the water is coming in behind the clutch pedal so the doors are not the problem. Checked all the usual suspects like drain holes and they are clear but the chief suspect is the bonnet cable grommet. It looks ok but only a complete idiot would design a grommet in the bottom of a drainage tray. I will seal it with silicone as a temporary measure but definitely replace it asap. I poured water in the drainage tray and it runs out the bottom behind the front wheel so all is well there. Just a pain in the nether regions as there are so many possible leak points. :swear:

  8. Well, I collected the car from the dealers (wings of Peterborough), this afternoon.  After taking it for a long drive over all the known bumps and uneven surface repairs which had previously always had her shaking her tail, I can safely say that the replacement shock has definitely sorted the problem.

Thanks Wings of Peterborough... Oh, and they also sorted the 1500 rpm rattle (air intake lid).

Very interesting as my 1.8T 4x4 does the same thing. It has always irritated me so I will be taking it in to have new shockers fitted and alignment checked asap. Thanks for the info.

  9. I was getting 2 new tyres fitted earlier and asked the guy about the leaking doors as the place he works at is a VW specialist so I thought he may have come across them before

He said that he has previously drilled an extra drain 2 holes in the doors of a Fabia and used to special paint on them to stop them rusting, and he has managed to stop the leaking doors, he said he did it without even removing the door cards

The carriers still leak slightly but enough water leaves through the drain holes so there isn't a build up of water in the carrier

Would this work?? I've looked at plenty of threads on leaking doors on here and surely it can't be that simple, otherwise everyone will have done it already

I did exactly that to my Octy 1 last year almost to the day and no wet carpets since.I know there are drain holes already but as far as I am aware they are under the rubber in a channel.I did the same in the corners of the boot lid just in case. I drilled 2 quite small holes in the middle of the door bottom and then just added a squirt of wd into the holes.Older vehicles all used to have visable drain holes in the doors so can't be all bad..

  10. Hi all, new to the vag world here so this is my first Octavia. I picked it up yesterday and new it had one or two little issues to contend with but this one I don't know where to start looking as nothing is visible from where the soggy carpet is situated.

It's mainly in the passenger rear, the bit of carpet between the plastic trim that holds the carpet down and between the seat base is rather damp and then the corner of the actual foot well closest to that bit is very damp and wet but in a 3" diameter.

Is this something others have suffered from and is there a probable and likely cause that's easy to fix?

Any help will be most appreciated :)

I had the same problem last year on my Octy1.I drilled 2 small holes in the bottom of each door just in case the water was building up in the door and spilling over into the footwell.Seems to have worked as no prob since.
