  1. People seemed to manage in the past without parent and child places so why the big deal now? Maybe the spaces are a bit tight but somehow mothers coped without bursting into tears. Perhaps a large 4x4 is the problem not the kids or parking space ?

I also try and park at the end of the row or where there are fewer vehicles. More often than not though someone always comes and parks next to me.The good lady has a theory that those who can't park also seek out the "quiet spots".Could be.

  2. There is a very useful free program called CC Cleaner which will declutter and even defrag if you ask it to.It is easily tuneable to your requirement and will get rid of all the old History files etc.It will also safely remove programs of your chioice. Not complicated and definitely worth a try befor you reload.

  3. The questions are. How will it effect your no claim bonus and how much is your excess. Unfortunately it could be more costly in the long run to claim rather than bite the bullet and pay for the damage.Unfortunately that's how insurance companies make their millions.

  4. Completely ridiculous. Back to the dark ages when there was a window tax and even today you can still see evidence of windows bricked up to avoid paying. This ludicrous tax only effects those who are low earners anyway and those with 10 + bedroomed homes are still laughing.Tax the poor and pensioners seems to be the governments answer to raising more cash. Let's not even go to the ridiculous sums the speed camera's and parking fines are raking in for the councils. It's the man in the middle who is bailing this government out of the s..t. Pick and Pay is the order of the day..

  5. Hi all, Took off a little too quickly on a cold morning before the windscreen had demisted and as I was wiping it with my hand my signet ring stone left two small but noticible scratches on the glass. Nothing major but annoying when my eyes focus on them. They are not deep scratches and barely register when I run a thumbnail over them. I've done extensive searches as to how these might be removed. I'm thinking of trying jewellers rouge, a powder which you mix into a paste and is used by jewellers to remove scratches from watch faces. I know people have used this successfully on windscreen glass. Just wondering if anyone in the Skoda family has had a similar problem and what their solution might be. I know there are lots of kits out there which use compounds with a rotary drill to get wiper scrapes out of glass, but that would be a sledgehammer to crack this particular nut. Many thanks in advance...and no...I don't intend taking a claw hammer to the problem either to get the windscreen replaced : ) A. PS - some time since I've been on the forum, but two years into ownership and the Superb ranks as possibly the best car I've ever owned.

Brasso or toothpaste with a soft cloth. But be VERY gentle and if the scratches are not removed easily and quickly stop immediately or you will make it worse. If they don't come out then methinks professional help required.

  6. Now it has finally turned cold I can't wind down my windows in the morning for about 10 minutes after the car has started as they have frozen in the runners . Whats the best method to prevent this ?   Although I have had several new cars in the last 30 years its the first time I have had this problem unless it was about -10c, but its only barely freezing at the moment and its starting to annoy me.

A smidgen of vaseline on the window edges should do the trick.Same on door rubbers, stops the sticking and damage of door rubbers in the icy conditions.

  7. You can check the scuttle drain hole without taking the cover off. Take torch or leadlight and look between the scuttle edge and wing. There is just enough space to see if the drain hole is blocked. You can scrape out the gunge and very gently push a length of wire or thin plastic pipe down the drain hole to clear. Then pour water in with a jug or similar and check drainage at the bottom of the wheel arch. This is only a check not the solution. You will still have to remove the cover to do a proper clean out but at least you will know if it is blocked to begin with. Good luck.

  8. Is he twilighting then. Hope Skoda don't find out.

How does he keep up to date-training /knowledge .

He has his own business as a mobile mechanic and travels to the customer rather than the other way round. He has all the diagnostics but I cannot comment on the latest vehicles etc.Mine is a a 53 plate so no problems there.

  9. Had the same problem. Managed to clean out the drain hole in the scuttle without removing the cover but still concerned about that stupid bonnet cable grommet. I will silicone that asap. No leaks so far. I found the best to mop up were cheap absorbent nappies which contain the water unlike sponges etc.I packed them in and left overnight with a weight on they soaked up a great deal of the water. Then a fan heater set on low for a few days seemed to do the trick. The whole thing is badly designed and should have been altered in manufacture years ago.
