  1. If the pollen filter was blocked up then the fan would be trying to pull a vacuum so would it be correct to say that, if the fan is blowing air at the full speed when on setting 4, then the pollen filter cannot be blocked up? Or is it just that the load on the fan / resistor pack would be that much greater causing the failure after only one month? Messsage to son: Check the pollen filter anyway. It's easy to do. There are YouTube videos on how. Just search "Fabia Mk II pollen filter". Thanks for all input.
  2. I mentioned "too cold" as a way of saying the air-con is working so that people would not ask "Have you checked the air-con?". Yes, you are right in that turning up the temperature a bit will make this easier to tolerate. I should say at this point (I should have said it in post #1) is that I am talking about my son's car and it was he that bought and replaced the resistor pack himself. He is a qualified Electrical Engineer but not the auto-electrician type. I am just trying to help him since I have more time than he has to investigate on his behalf. I have sent him the link to this thread so any comments posted here will help him. Thanks! Your input is very much appreciated.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I'll check the pollen / cabin filter? It was supposed to have been changed at last service only a month or so ago but maybe the garage forgot ( 😒) to change it? If it needs the whole blower unit replacing how much £ are we talking about?
  4. Skoda Fabia Mk II, 2012 1.4 SE 5D Hatch The resistor pack was replaced and worked OK for 1 month then problem returned. Air con works OK but, at fan speed 4 it is too cold. Why should resistor pack fix only last 4 weeks? Is there anything else that could be causing this? Thanks in advance.
  5. As the thread starter I feel I should say that I have bought a used Peugeot 308 with 1.2 Puretech engine and EAT6 automatic gearbox so thanks to all for your comments. It drives well and seems to change gear very smoothly. It's also very perky which is a nice bonus. I just hope it proves a good choice in the long term. I'll stop my input now that my objective has been achieved.
  6. It's early days yet (I believe they only started to fit them from September 2018) but I have read a couple of questions in www.honestjohn.co.uk regarding blocked GPFs. Unfortunately I can't find the articles now or I would have copied & pasted the links in this thread. Sorry about not finding the links but 'Happy Motoring' to you.
  7. Modern cars, diesel and petrol, now have fuel particulate filters. It used to be just diesel engines. I say this so you are aware of driving it properly so that the particulate filter (DPF or GPF) doesn't clog-up. Avoid too many short journeys. Happy driving. The car looks lovely.
  8. Silver 1011 & Skoffski - Regarding body size I do not want anything larger than the Fabia Estate / Peugeot 308 and the 308 seems to be looking to be what I may go for in order to get the EAT6 gearbox although the Citroen C3 Flair is also a possibility.
  9. Estate Man - Thanks for the info. I think the EAT6 gearbox sounds good and I note that you like the Citroen C3 Flair with that box. I have looked at the C3 and it looks OK except for that door mat/rug stuck to the sides. Is this fitted to all C3s or can it be had without the doormat? I have been looking at the Peugeot 308 (which is a bigger car) in the 'Allure' trim level also fitted with the EAT6 gearbox. This, IMO, looks a nicer car and the second hand prices are the same as for the C3. Weird! A bigger, nicer looking car for the same money? Are there problems with the Peugeot 308 'Allure' with EAT6 box causing this?
  10. Have done a quick check on the ZF autobox and there are two types. The 8HP (for rear or all wheel drive cars) and the 9HP (for transverse installation in front wheel drive cars). Both are fitted in expensive cars and so I can't afford them. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  11. Chimaera - I believe the 6-speed wet clutch type DSG is only available in the larger car and engine sizes and I do not want a large car/engine. Skoffski - The EAT8 is only available on 308 models from August 2018 onwards and I can't afford one of those. I thought the EAT6 was a good gearbox so I am looking at 2017 models but you say salesmen are "trying to move" EAT6 cars. Are you saying a) there are issues with the EAT6 or b) they are just trying to sell the older spec to get rid of them? I can accept b) but not a).
  12. After driving Skoda DSG automatic gearbox cars for about 12 years I bought a new manual gear change Fabia in March 2017 so that's over two years now. There is nothing wrong with my manual Fabia but it does not compare with the auto-box experience and the yearning I have to go back to an auto-box is growing stronger. I thought I would get used to the manual gear change but I can't stop comparing the experience and I do not enjoy driving the manual. I believe there are a lot of problems with the DSG box ( source = https://www.honestjohn.co.uk ) and they are expensive to fix so: - Question 1 - Am I unusual to want to spend around £5.5k + trade-in value of my Fabia to switch to a non-DSG automatic gearbox car? I am considering a Peugeot 308 "Active" trim with the EAT 6 speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. With 130 bhp and 170 lbf. ft of torque it should be more satisfying to drive for overtaking purposes (high speeds do not impress me). Question 2 - Does anyone have any comments re the Peugeot 308 "Active" trim EAT6 car? Thanks in advance.
  13. Are the sensors clean? Was it freezing conditions (ice on sensors) at the time. Maybe the 'system' is not recognizing that you have moved out of reverse gear which could be a faulty gearbox sensor? If bumper sensors are clean and no ice/dirt on them then they could be developing a fault. Could water have gotten into the system (heavy rain or floods)?
