Are sat nav and map updates free or a subscription
I am still interested in an answer to this but only for academic reasons now. Out of interest. The reason is that I have had second thoughts and realised that I don't use my sat nav as much as I used to. I posted the question before I realised I no longer need it. I am just so used to having sat nav that I thought I needed it. Thanks for any replies anyway. They might help others who want the answer because they need to know.

Are sat nav and map updates free or a subscription
I am thinking of coming back to a Skoda Fabia Mk4. Maybe a 72 or 23 plate SE L trim. My current car is a 2019 plate Peugeot 308 and the sat nav is free. Map updates are free and easy to download to a USB stick via a computer and install in the car from the USB stick. I have read a few posts on this forum regarding the sat nav in Skoda vehicles. Many say how difficult it is to update maps but none state if you have to pay for sat nav. Can anyone advise if there is a cost and how much please? Is it a one-off cost or only for a fixed period (3-Years)? I am not interested in Skoda Connect but I think you need it in order to get map updates? Is it correct to say this? Following link is dated 2018 so it is 6-Years out of date. An up to date answer is what I am after: -

Thinking of coming back to a Skoda Fabia
@DerekU - Great video. Thank you. I saved the link. The only thing I would add is that the phone should not be left low-down in the car since phone signal may be lost at times. Best to leave it high up to get the strongest signal as @offthewall suggested. Maybe on the dashboard behind the infotainment screen as long as it can't slide around? Other suggestions welcome.

Thinking of coming back to a Skoda Fabia
The way I understand it is that using a smartphone (not sat-nav unit) plugged into the front USB port displays the phone's screen (Google Maps) onto the Infotainment screen so brightness is not an issue. The phone can just sit anywhere since you do not look at the phone screen after you have used it to set up your route. I had considered a sat-nav unit but I dismissed that idea due to exactly the mounting issues that you mention as well as the unsuitable location of the power socket inside the arm rest.

How do I change my car details in my profile?
I finally found it at the bottom of the list. I hadn't scrolled down far enough. 😬😀

How do I change my car details in my profile?
Yes, I can edit my profile but not my car details. I can see my personal details but not the car details so I cannot edit them. The photo shows what I see but it is not in an editable format.

Thinking of coming back to a Skoda Fabia
@offthewall - So you connect your phone to the infotainment unit via bluetooth then you select your phone app map (Google Maps or Waze) and it shows on the infotainment screen? Is that correct? This sounds okay since the phone can just sit anywhere in the car so there is no need to mount your phone on the dashboard? Does this use a lot of phone data over a 1-hour journey?

Thinking of coming back to a Skoda Fabia
@DerekU and @SurreyJohn - Thank you guys. It seems I can be assured it is a timing belt that is 'reinforced' and it is a 'Dry' belt (not running in oil). Also, I think my DSG box concerns no longer apply. Just two more questions re sat-nav: - I am still doing my research and I get the impression that the built-in sat-nav part of the infotainment unit needs an annual subscription for it to work. Or is it just map updates that need the subscription? If you do not pay this subscription then do you have to use your own sat-nav? From what I see from online photos Skoda have made it difficult to mount a separate sat-nav anywhere on the dashboard. Maybe they wish to 'incentivise' owners to pay the subscription.

How do I change my car details in my profile?
Thread title says it all. I have looked in 'Profile' and 'Settings' but can't see how to edit my care details (which is now 5-years out of date).

Thinking of coming back to a Skoda Fabia
I have had a few Fabias before 2019 but have had Peugeot automatics since then. I am thinking of returning to the Fabia fold because, although the Peugeots have been good cars (in my experience) I am troubled by the very expensive repair bill if the wet (running in oil) timing belt were to fail. I know these are a risk and can lead to a destroyed engine costing £8000 to replace. I am interested in the Mark IV (2022 plate) Fabia SE L trim 1.0L 3-cyl TSI engine with DSG and I was wondering if some experts can tell me: - Q1 - Does this engine have a timing chain or a belt? Q2 - I suspect it is a timing chain because I have not heard of issues with belt failures (as happens in the Peugeot 1.2 Puretech engines) but, if it is a belt then is it a ‘dry’ belt or a ‘wet’ belt? Q3 - Earlier DSG boxes were prone to failure due to various issues (see photo) but can anyone say if VW/Skoda have fixed these issues in a 2022 plate vehicle? Maybe the DSGs are now maintainable?

Blower fan works on position 4 but not 1, 2 or 3?

Blower fan works on position 4 but not 1, 2 or 3?
If the pollen filter was blocked up then the fan would be trying to pull a vacuum so would it be correct to say that, if the fan is blowing air at the full speed when on setting 4, then the pollen filter cannot be blocked up? Or is it just that the load on the fan / resistor pack would be that much greater causing the failure after only one month? Messsage to son: Check the pollen filter anyway. It's easy to do. There are YouTube videos on how. Just search "Fabia Mk II pollen filter". Thanks for all input.

Blower fan works on position 4 but not 1, 2 or 3?
I mentioned "too cold" as a way of saying the air-con is working so that people would not ask "Have you checked the air-con?". Yes, you are right in that turning up the temperature a bit will make this easier to tolerate. I should say at this point (I should have said it in post #1) is that I am talking about my son's car and it was he that bought and replaced the resistor pack himself. He is a qualified Electrical Engineer but not the auto-electrician type. I am just trying to help him since I have more time than he has to investigate on his behalf. I have sent him the link to this thread so any comments posted here will help him. Thanks! Your input is very much appreciated.

Blower fan works on position 4 but not 1, 2 or 3?
Thanks for the reply. I'll check the pollen / cabin filter? It was supposed to have been changed at last service only a month or so ago but maybe the garage forgot ( 😒) to change it? If it needs the whole blower unit replacing how much £ are we talking about?

Blower fan works on position 4 but not 1, 2 or 3?
Skoda Fabia Mk II, 2012 1.4 SE 5D Hatch The resistor pack was replaced and worked OK for 1 month then problem returned. Air con works OK but, at fan speed 4 it is too cold. Why should resistor pack fix only last 4 weeks? Is there anything else that could be causing this? Thanks in advance.
