Hello all.
My main car a Golf Estate had some issues and it needed to go into the garage, I needed a car for the short term around 1 month while the parts etc arrive to fix my main car. I found a 1.2 Fabia Petrol which came with a few months of MOT left, not too expensive and would do as a stop gap.
So when I went to look at it the engine was cold, I start the engine and it started straight away no issues. Everything else checked out, no leaking shafts, slight oil leak at the sump, weeping. Coolant was good not milky etc, so I brought it, drove it 100 miles back home.
Next day it did not start in the morning. I left it and called RAC in the evening, he scanned the car found nothing, when starting you can hear the car typing to start but does not. After a long time trying it does start but by this time the engine is flooded with fuel so we get a smell and lots of smoke. While RAC is here turns it off and, on many times, and starts first time no issues.
So he leaves and the next morning again same issue, but same process, take a good 5 mins to get it to start but it does fire, lots of smoke and fuel smell, once it clears runs fine. No smoke, vibrations or missing. I have tried searching the 1.2 engine issues on the forum but I guess I maybe searching the wrong way because I cannot find anything similar.
What should I check next? I just need the car to start first time for a short while, it is not a long-term car.
