  1. So update on this is, it eat a bit of money but works now. In order of the repairs: 1. Small leak on thermostat housing, so replaced. Improved but never fixed the issue 2. Mechanic suggested as a temp fix, head gasket sealer, fixed the issue 3. A few weeks later, timing chain rattle started, that was replaced. Its runs well now and gives no issues. Only thing the guy that did the timing chain said was, the car pulls strong, a bit too strong, it may have been mapped or something else is wrong. I agree the car has a very strong pull, more than expected for a 1.2 HTP engine.
  2. Mileage is 112k. RAC guy didnt open anything up, he scanned it and started it and left, he was in a rush to get as many jobs in, the impression I got. I did change the spark plugs last night, They were covered in Carbon but not the worst I have seen. It started first time this morning, will check tomorrow again see if it starts. If gets me through a couple of weeks, that's it purpose fulfilled.
  3. Hello all. My main car a Golf Estate had some issues and it needed to go into the garage, I needed a car for the short term around 1 month while the parts etc arrive to fix my main car. I found a 1.2 Fabia Petrol which came with a few months of MOT left, not too expensive and would do as a stop gap. So when I went to look at it the engine was cold, I start the engine and it started straight away no issues. Everything else checked out, no leaking shafts, slight oil leak at the sump, weeping. Coolant was good not milky etc, so I brought it, drove it 100 miles back home. Next day it did not start in the morning. I left it and called RAC in the evening, he scanned the car found nothing, when starting you can hear the car typing to start but does not. After a long time trying it does start but by this time the engine is flooded with fuel so we get a smell and lots of smoke. While RAC is here turns it off and, on many times, and starts first time no issues. So he leaves and the next morning again same issue, but same process, take a good 5 mins to get it to start but it does fire, lots of smoke and fuel smell, once it clears runs fine. No smoke, vibrations or missing. I have tried searching the 1.2 engine issues on the forum but I guess I maybe searching the wrong way because I cannot find anything similar. What should I check next? I just need the car to start first time for a short while, it is not a long-term car.
