  1. thanks for the answer would the slow cranking make it judder and run lumpy? how would i test the starter to see if its faulty? cheers
  2. hi folks i have a twin cam 2.0 tdi PD DSG 2006 Octavia and it seems to not want to start properly, sometimes its like the battery is flat or the starter motor is lazy for a second or 2 and then it seems like it doesnt want to start for a second and then jumps into life. i have had issues with the EGR and the ant shudder valve/throttle body and have changed both but it seems to be getting worse. the engine has lag when you press the pedal as if its thinking about things and then it shoots off especially in reverse. there is what seems to be a miss or something else causing a judder when stationary or moving as if the revs are going up and down but the rev counter stays the same these bkd engines according to google do this but it can be 1 of 10 things ranging from the injector/heater loom to blockage in the manifold or even vac pipes etc i am wondering what measuring blocks to log to test from cold start to warm so that may shed some light on things? any help appreciated guys
  3. put it in sport and it wont change up as quickly
  4. dont want to jump on the op toes you need to delete some messages mate
  5. i am watching this :p same as billywhiz no maxidot and no mfsw etc
  6. i did a search but didnt manage to finad any part numbers or useable info on what i would need
  7. i have fitted a Columbus and now want to fit a Bury car kit into the loom https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autoleads-SOT-976FB-Accessory-Interface-Populated/dp/B005JZ89CM i have read that the blue plug in my loom is for the cd changer in the boot but that does not show up in the Columbus and that could be to do with the earth wire not being in the right place? i would like to get the cd changer to be seen if possible and would like to do it while i fit the hands free unit any advice or help appreciated cheers
  8. had a Hunter 4 wheel alignment done on Friday and all was good except the fronts needed adjustment im now happy that my tyres should wear nice
  9. the rear tyres were down to the limit and making the "wheel bearing" noise i will be getting 4 wheel done asap so i know its right thanks for the comments guys
  10. had 4 new tyres on last week or so and decided to get the car tracked but i have been told that the Octavia needs 4 wheel alignment as the rears scrub tyres if not done and they are known for killing rear tyres is this the case? or is it a sales pitch?
  11. great service so far and they give you a padded case but Gendan and Ilexa dont so that swung it and i ordered yesterday at 4pm and its on the delivery van for today so im happy so far
  12. i have just ordered it from because it comes in a plastic protective box http://www.mi-uk.com/ will be here tomorrow if i use it and cant get on with it then i can sell it without losing too much i think so its worth it
  13. new gearbox oil has sorted the juddering and harsh gear change 95% i have not had the shudder since and had only 1 or 2 clunks in the past few days i just need the adaptations setting in the gearbox via vcds and then i will know what is what
  14. after changing the oil today everything felt better and although i need to take it on a run to get the oil as thin as possible and then any issues show up i have already tried both ways of doing it as per Google and your posts above Tony and to be honest it does not seem to have made a difference to me as it felt sharper and smoother after the oil had been changed as RRG says below what i am after is best doing via VCDS and then clutch and pump pressure can be optimised. thanks for the help i do appreciate the help this is what i want doing James and i am willing to pay for someone who knows how to do it, i dont think its mega hard for someone who knows what they are doing thanks for the reply i do appreciate all help
  15. thanks for your input Tony but as far as i am aware from what i have read it doesn't do anything as the only way to make the ECU learn is to do the settings via the VCDS as above but as usual i am quite willing to be educated by people with superior knowledge  the way to do it is with the VCDS and then its not guaranteed to work, i have today changed the dsg oil and although the oil was very dirty and so was the filter there were no metal fragments to be seen so thats a partial relief,
  16. this what to do before going into a specialist next week Mike, if it sorts it then i will be happy but i am not banking on it and then the Mechatronic unit needs testing and the mechanics are last according to the specialist as long as there are no metal fragments in the oil...
  17. i have all these symptoms listed except for the flashing PRNDS http://www.evosoft.dk/DSGRepair.html i am changing the oil and filter tomorrow but need the gearbox reset as the above advice and this is what he suggests http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/6-Speed_Direct_Shift_Gearbox_(DSG/02E) i am willing to travel and pay for the right member who is confident they know how to do it as even if i bought VCDS wouldn't have a clue and dont want to screw the box up more than it already is.
  18. i know you were not trying to put me off mate and i appreciate the help and advice my lad has a 2008 octavia and says he will go halves with me if i want like you say it is a good tool and if we decide we dont need it or want it we wont loose a fortune
  19. thank you very much for your input i think i may just get an head unit instead lol
  20. yeah i thought the same as well the front bumper had to come off anyway because the washers won't work and there we found the mechanism broken so new ordered and he said that he finds it quicker and easier to get the engine and box out than mess around with the gearbox and then mess around doing the water pump and timing belt kit and also with the turbo being suspect he opted to take the lot out and the rear engine mountings were perished
  21. been to have a look lol was easier with the engine out apparently
  22. just an update guys DMF in new timing belt kit and plastic finned water pump (original VAG) in the turbo was found to have some play and was allowing oil past so new turbo in so all in all its not that cheap a motor but on the other hand i know whats been done now
  23. hows the head unit doing? any issues when you have the heating on high?
