  1. Its been a while since I've posted here but I'm looking to sell my current car and then get a cheap run around for 6 months to a year until the new focus rs comes out which I'm on the waiting list for but my car is about to go out of warranty and just want to get rid of it. I would maybe keep it after I get the focus to use day to day so the focus doesn't get any carpark dings on it.

    My max budget is £1500.

    What would you guys suggest?

I've seen a 53 plate mk 1 fabia 1.2 classic with just over 29000 miles on the clock for £1500. Its got a full skoda service history to 2010 but the pictures don't show anything beyond that as well as a little rust starting to develop on one of the rear arches.

Theres also an 05 plate mk 1 octavia estate 1.6 petrol classic with 139000 miles on it for £800 with full service history to 102000 miles. From the photos there looks to be a small scuff on the rear bumper but nothing serious.

Any make or models considered except french or italian cars.

    Thanks in advance :)

P.S. how much would a 62 plate octavia vrs blackline estate with 40000 miles on it be worth roughly?

  2. The prat in his Peugot 1007 who decided to straight line the roundabout causing me o have to brake since he came in to my lane. Then he decided that once I was within a car length of him as I was overtaking him he'd pull out in front of me without indicating and then proceed to overtake the car in the inside lane at about 1 mph faster than it was going using the whole overtaking lane as it was ending just ahead. Complete pillock!! :wall: :wall: :wall:

  3. Thanks for that Gregie. Basicly I hit a baby deer at 50mph, killed it and my car looks rather sorry for itself now. Theee is a list as long as your arm of stuff that needs replacing, bumper, bonnet, l/h headlight, l/h wing, grille, front crash beam and a few other bits and pieces that take the total bill up to £2750 :/

  4. aah nightmare. I was doing 60 and didnt have time to brake either. I was luckier than you i just caught the back half the deer and broke bumper clips and stressed it. Bent my wing a bit and a new headlight was needed. Also scratched my door. Hardly notice but i know the marks are there so it needs sorted :p

I've been quoted £2750 to fix it :-s Insurance job I think lol

  5. Definately not good but it is quite lucky. How quick were you going?

I was on a back road doing 50-55 mph and I didn't even have time to touch the brakes before I hit it. My gf screamed like a little girl tho lol. I would post up a picture of the culprit but some people might not like it so I'm not going to bother. I'm just glad the airbags didn't go off

  6. Can anyone recommend a garage in the Aberdeen area that will do a good job of fixing my car that needs a new front bumper, bonnet and grille? Also to add a complication I need the car fixed by the 1st of June because I'm going down to England for 3 and a half months.

    Thanks in advance

    Stu

  7. I was wonering if anyone knew where I could get second hand bits for my car in racr blue. Its a mk2 fl Octavia vRS and I need a new bonnet, front bumper, and bonnet grille. If you could link them to your post that would be great :) I might also need some more bits because I've not examined how bad the damage is to the car.

    Thanks in advance

    Stu

P.S. If the bits are in Scotland that would be even better

  8. That's an impressive amount of shredding!

I love shredding, there's something about it I find quite therapeutic. I tend to let my paper pile up for a while so I can spend a good while shredding it all. But you've beaten me there. :)

Yeah I know right. Our tea bar was half full with paper to be shredded at one point lol. There is something nice about feeding paper into a shredder but I don't know why :giggle: Also seeing how many bits you can get through in 1 go is fun. We got 30 bits of paper through the straight cut shredder thats only rated for 8 bits at once :o And they wonder how we break things :giggle:

If that shredding is strip cut (which is what it looks like) then it's not up to standard.

Can't quote the document off the top of my head but there is a Gov standard for shredding (must be DIN4 or summit like that).

Oh dear the crap I have to know... :bandit:

It was mainly leave planners, shift lists and trade diaries that went through the straight cut shredder as well as stuff that was on the walls so its all ok. All the 'juicy' stuff went through the cross cut one including some rather interesting video tapes that we found. We wanted to watch them but we weren't allowed to and we don't have a video player to play them on anyway :giggle: On a side note if you ever shred a vidoe tape make sure you stop regularly and clean the bottom of the cutters because it gets very messy and the tape gums everything up. Feeding paper through it while you do it helps but it still gums up

There are shredding vehicles. I'm sure you could have had a firm in to do it

We had on of them come as well... But only after we had shredded about 95% of all the paper that we needed to shred :wall:

Did someone attempt to dig an escape tunnel?

Haha no but it flippin hurt when I went through. Its a good job it was only about 2.5 feet or else it could have been a lot worse

    Just burn it

We wanted to do that but the fire section said that we weren't allowed to because we might somehow burn down the whole of Lossiemouth or something silly like that....

  9. Love my job :dull: I signed on the dotted line so I could work on aircraft and for instead everyone in work has been helping to shred every bit of sensitive information in work since we won't be a squadron by the end of the month. The 2 office shredders that we had have died a noble death by working non stop from the moment we come in to work to the moment we leave. One even tried to eat a knife but failed. Who knew that you could fill 4 of these with just shredding?

Its amazing what you find when clearing out a HAS site. About half a rainforest in unused paper, enough NBC gear to kit up about 500 people and a bit of floor that was cover by a cupboard that if you stood on it you fell through the floor. Guess who found that :giggle:

  10. It was a couple of days ago but the guy in his soft roader who was weaving all over the lane and went right into the verge kicking up a load of stones and flicking them at my car. Thanks to him I now have a chip in my windscreen :dull: Suppose I had better dig out the insurance policy and see if I've got to pay anything towards a repair...

  11. Both in need of a good clean :p 2nd pic fire it U/S for the craic.

Clean? Whats that then? I can only remember one van ever being washed and that was because I managed to get mud all up the side, front and back doors of it. It was so muddy when I parked it up there was mud dripping off of the chassis making pools/piles of mud under it. There was still mud coming off of the bottom of it 3 days later. Don't even ask how I managed it  :giggle: The service light was on for months on that van and it was still on when we had to give it back to MT because it wouldn't reverse. I think it will need a new gearbox after less than 23k because we managed to strip the gear of its teeth :o

  12. Poisoned it. Well the OH did when she connected her iPhone to the Amundsen and was playing Busted and the Spice Girls... Oh and the Logical Song by Scooter come on at one point as well :S Think I need to educate her on what proper music is.

To say sorry too my car I bought it a present tho

  13. I've never heard of an Octavia having this problem before. It sounds like it could be a while before you get it back as well. I know that my Grandad had an works Escort van in the 80's that had the same problem but it was the passenger side that leaked and he never managed to get it fixed the whole time he had the van. It sounds like a weld has failed on the engine bay bulkhead and that is where the leak is coming from. Worst case senario is the engine and entire dash and associated electrics will have to come out to re-weld the broken weld. I'm not saying that it is a broken weld but if it is then it could be a pain to fix properly

  14. It is a good spec but when I specced one up how I wanted it, it ended up costing £37.5k and that was for a 3 door manual :o The 19 inch alloys, amundsen equivalent satnav and 2 and a bit grand leather seats might explain that a bit tho since thats about 4k's worth of the options there :giggle:

  15. Speaking of Blackline Stu's last, anyone else watch the documentary on the A9 last night?

If so, what did you make of the Yank who was being overtaken by the truck and (from their editting) being told by his wife that he was "driving too fast"? My response was :wall::swear:

I didn't watch it but its been recorded so I'll watch it later. Was it any good?
