  1. Hi guys, I have had a quick search and can't find anything relating directly to this, apologies if its already been asked.

I have picked up a cheap Pioneer AVH-X5600BT stereo and all the necessary adaptors and cables. I plan to fit it at the weekend. It has USB as most modern stereos do but I wondered if the MDI port will still work once fitted?

    Thanks

  2. Just thought I would chime in, not posted for a while.

My 2012 Monte Carlo had a rattle from the centre console, no amount of my messing with stuff seemed to solve it so I got the dealership to look at it under warranty.

Turned out to be a cable under the radio hold rattling on the underside of the centre console. They fitted some sticky pads and the rattle has never been back since. That was at its first service about two years ago.

    Thanks

    Guy

  3. Isn't the M1 heavily monitored by traffic camera's? Is there no way of ringing and asking for the footage for insurance purposes? This is one of the reason why I have the extra security so to speak of having a Blackvue dashcam fitted.

Unfortunately it was off the M1 although one of the cameras might have been able to pick him / her up during their escape. I did speak to the authorities but they didn't seem interested in getting footage, I'm still waiting for the officer to call me for a proper statement.

I'm looking at camera systems now, I've thought about it in the past but time to actually get some.

  4. Thanks for the replies guys.

Don't panic, I used to have a bike so I know generally most riders are decent (you have to be to survive being on a bike) just annoys me that some spoil it for the rest.

What makes it worse is only two months ago my car was fixed after someone ran into the back of me! Not having much luck so far.

  5. What was he riding? I'm an active member of a couple of big bike forums, so can keep an eye open.

    Many thanks.

I don't know what bike it was, by the time I realised there was a bike there he'd already gone by and by the time I had turned round he was entering the island. I asked all three of the cars that pulled over and none of them got his reg or were knowledgeable enough to know what type of bike. I vaguely can pull an image from memory and it seemed fairly wide, maybe slightly taller than a normal sports bike but that's as much detail as it happened so quick.

So annoyed he / she didn't stop, I'm left to foot the bill for their stupidity.

  6. You've put a deposit down which means you've agreed to a deal but there is nothing stopping you finding better deals else where and pointing those out to the dealership to see if you can get some reductions or additions (matts, free options, etc).

Legally, as with anything though you are entitled to a 14 day cool off period, which means you could cancel the deal and request your money back.

  7. I fear I came off a lot worse on this one...

So on Sunday me and family and a convoy of friends head to Twycross Zoo, having just exited J25 of the M1 and heading down the Long Eaton road past Novatel Hotel there traffic is pretty thick in both directions. Suddenly the car in front swerves in towards the curb, I have no time to react to the biker who is over the white line, in my lane overtaking on coming traffic, i.e head on with us.

It went with a right bang.

In fact he hit us so hard  the mirror has gouged my side window glass, three cars back got hit with debris, I cannot believe he didn't come off. Anyway I manage to pull into a service road on the right, with the intention of chasing after him but by the time I had turned round, he'd disappeared on to the J25 island. A few kind people pulled over to make sure we were OK and gave me their numbers which shows there are still some decent people in this world.

Having spoke to Rainworth Skoda (who are brilliant) I've had a quote of £280, for new mirror, side glass, paint and fitting which is didn't think was that bad.

Needless to say, if anyone knows of someone who broke their motorbike at J25 of the M1 over the weekend, or picked up a wrist injury of some description, tell them I want me money back.

  8. Despite modern engines not needing a run in I drove mine less than 3000 RPM for the first 2000 miles, mine also freed up around 4000.

One thing I would point out is the stereo maybe pretty awful at first but it does actually bed in quite nicely so give it a little time.

I average 60 MPG out of my 105 TDI CR, I regularly achieve 65-70 on a couple of journeys I do, although those figures have taken a big hit with the cold weather!

    Hope he enjoys it!

  9. When I phoned to cancel the policy (as in not renew) and they asked why, I replied "because you're a rip off and impossible to contact". Their reply "thanks for your custom, the cancellation will be in the post". No hard sell, can we beat your alternate quote etc.

I am never going online insurance again.

Amen to that, my current insurer doesn't even do online quotes and they have been the best I've used by a mile. Also someone on the end of the phone, always go out of there way to help and allows different size wheels as long as recommended by the manufacturer!

  10. Can be in any gear. As regeneration required a pre combustion injection. If engine revs are to high then there just isn't time for it.

Constant speed is more important than high speed but tbh given the right use it should be automatic and barely noticeable.

Yeah I figured it would be any gear and they were aiming for revs more than anything.

I've only noticed my occur once, my Monte sat idling at 1,000 after a few miles on a bypass, i assumed this was it finishing off a regen. To be fair though most of my driving is down a 8 mile bypass at 50 which should suit regen anyway.

  11. Did you notice much difference between the standard diesel from supermarkets and posh diesel (shell, Texaco, esso etc etc)

For me standard Shell diesel gives 50-60 miles more per tank than any of the other fuels I've tested. Car did feel a little smoother also although that could just be placebo. However with V-Power the difference is very noticeable.

Never noticed a difference with 'super' diesel in my mk1 vRS. Petrol mk2 vRS definitely quicker and more economical with the posh stuff tho

I used to run high octane fuel in my Calibra as the old 2.0 litre lump ran loads better but in my 54 reg Astra H it didn't make the slightest difference. With the Monte though, V-Power diesel makes a vast difference, I'm not sure its going to help economy as it encourages a slightly more aggressive driving style but it certainly adds a smile ;)

  12. <br />There is a thread on the forum (somewhere) about this issue. Someone said something about the diagnostic system automatically scanning the ECU and highlighting if the map was not stock and recording this on the Skoda UK system, not just the dealerships. No idea how the Revo dealerships handle this.
<br /><br />VAS diagnostics do communicate with VAG but only to program keys, stereos etc, as far as I'm aware they aren't used for warranty claims by the dealership, although its been 18 months since i last configured a VAS and things may have changed ;)<br /><br />UPDATE: The link you spoke about I believe is this one:<br /><br />http://www.briskoda.net/forums/index.php
  13. What you say doesn't sound totally logical. It's Skoda that provide the warranty, not individual dealerships.

So if Skoda UK say a Revo remap doesn't affect warranty,fine...and that then surely applies via any dealership.

On the other hand,if the Revo "warranty" is just dealer "word of mouth" there may be issues.

I can't see Skoda UK authorizing the use of unofficial code in their ECU's so I think its more lightly the case that the dealership will turn a blind eye to the remap when making warranty claims with Skoda UK.

I'm going to my dealership in a week or so to test a remapped 105 Monte so will ask them then.

  14. The engine is identical and its simply the ECU maps which are different.

My dealership actually offer a Revo remap when buying the car and will continue to maintain the usual warranty, however as pointed out to me by another forum member, if the dealership ceased trading and I had to take it to a different dealer, they may not be as willing to do warranty work if they realise the car is mapped.

See below for the Revo details, also take note of my insurance comment on your other post :)

  15. I thought of doing this but it could be as much as £800-£900 difference when buying it new, and when i do come to sell it (a lot of years ahead) then i doubt it will make any odds at all (given it could be well over 8 years old by then and will have been re-mapped anyway), also remember every single year when the insurance is due i will be paying less because it will be the 75 bhp version..... so its the gift that just keeps giving !

Remember what you are proposing to do is illegal and your insurance could be void because of it.

When I bought my Fabia the difference in premiums between the 75 and 105 models was £40. You would be well advised to give your insurer a call and ask what the difference would be.

  16. I've noticed a couple of threads about this but can't seem to find any conclusion.

The large front speaker in the passenger door on my 12 plate Monte TDi rattles/vibrates at certain low frequencies. As it is only one side I know i'm not distorting the amp and it's been doing it since day one so I know I haven't 'blown' the speaker.

I mentioned it to Carrs when I took the car in for it's first service but neither of us had the time to properly investigate it on that occasion.

Does anyone else have this problem? If so, was it sorted (by the dealer or yourself) satisfactorily?

    Cheers

    Martin

How long have you had the car? My 12 plate rattled like hell until only recently when it sorted itself.

After speaking to a friend who's an audio specialist, he said even speakers need to bed in, something to do with the material connecting the cone to the chassis of the speaker.
