  1. The speed of the cranking does slow after 10seconds. As the use of the car has changed over the last 3 years from being used daily (10-13k a year) to once/twice a week (4-5k a year), don’t fancy going away for 16days and not being able to start it. I was contemplating a like for like swap, 70Ah AGM from either Bosch, Varta, Lucas etc.
  2. I was advised at my last service that my battery was only holding 59% charge, sometimes having to crank the engine for 10-15 seconds before it would start. It is the original Varta battery so has done well. Q - Does a new battery (AGM) need to be programmed to the car with VCDS or is there another method than can be used ?
  3. Been using the EZ Wheel brushes (big & small) for years now, perhaps I should treat myself as the ‘fling’ when drawing the brush back does tend to splatter the user. I do a yearly deep clean and apply 2 coats of rim wax, perhaps this year I’ll try a sealant.
  4. Thanks for the replies and pictures. I previously had a 60 plate silver VRs hatch, went to get a new rear wiper, saw this and changed my car due to its colour and the different alloys, which are a pain to keep clean.
  5. Interersting thread - I have a 2014 VRS that has now covered 64k, my commute to the office was 9miles, some was stop start, some was driven briskly but mpg wise was mid 40's mpg, if adding any work journeys it would increase to 50'ish mpg . The car is mainly driven in 'normal' mode, oil is checked weekly along with tyre pressures (set to full load), tyres are Michelin Pilot Super Sport 4's. Fuel is mainly from supermarkets (never seen the point of using a premium plus fuel at an additional 10-15p/lt or £4-6/tank full), car is on a long life service plan. I try not to rev the engine above 2.5k until its warm/normal running temp. Over the last 6 years I've found that the cooler weather improves the engines responsiveness and increases mpg on longer runs but decreases it on shorter runs.
  6. Thanks for the replies, the price for the HiD bulbs vary so much between suppliers is crazy, in some cases it’s nearly £90 difference for exactly the same unit. so I will shop around, I have Philips D3S 35w units but there is no lumens rating eg 4500/5000/7000 ?
  7. I’ve had the same fault appear twice - “headlight Dip beam failure” it’s gone from being bright white to a yellow/orange. is this a hid unit replacement ?
  8. The drivers car mat has a hole worn into it after 61/2 years of use. What are the best replacements ?
  9. I've had the car since August 2015, at the time of purchase I was informed that the car was accident free. The issue started about 12 months ago with 2 small patches, possibly from stone chips, but now the front end looks like a war zone. The washer jet covers look to be a different shade of Rio Red, I'll upload pictures tomorrow. Any clues or who to get it resprayed by ?
  10. These will need changing in the next 3 months, is there any point in using non-standard disks/pads (e.g. EBC) Over stick items ? Is there a ‘go to’ place for them ?
  11. Its nice to see another VRs with Pistorious alloys, are yours 18's and have you found a way to keep them clean ?
  12. Cheers for the replies, I've ordered the 'Ez detail' brushes in both large & small, I'll let you know how I get on.
  13. Ok, so probably not the best title going but.....I've had my current VRs for 4 years now (still waiting to see an identical car) and I love the 18"Pistorious alloys (see pic) but these are a pain to clean (unless you remove them - not ideal each week). The narrow gap between the spokes usually gives me a few cuts/splits to my fingers by my nails. To date I have gone through 7 or 8 different wheel brushes (the last one being a Meguiars Ultrasafe Wheel spoke brush - lasted about 4 months) and I'm now wondering if its worth inversing in a set of original 'Wheel Woolies' ? Anyone got any thoughts (I'm not going to change my wheels) ?
  14. My 13 plate VRs running 18's came with the original Continentals and have changed them for Michelin Pilot Sport 4's and cant fault them, great wet/dry grip, low road noise and good rim protection - Got them when Costco had £100 off when 4 tyres brought. Would put them on again, no worries.
  15. Fidn something that you like at a price that is not going to rob the bank, some products are easy to work with whilst others can be a complete nightmare to apply/remove. If you know of anyone or if you are going to the USA, pop in to Walmart as Meguiars is a fraction of the price (e.g. large bottle of Gold Class was - UK £18 USA $7) I'm a sucker for Meguiars to the stage that when Costco discounted their starter packs down to £13.49 I brought 4 of them !! Read lots and buy less (if you can).
  16. Anyone used it, if so how did you use it and what were the results like ? I picked up a bottle from Halfaords for £8 before Chistmas.
  17. I was only follwoing the instructions, never tried it on a dry car, are the results better ? It might mean that I'm only foaming the car once and might get 20mins per car back !!
  18. I have OCD - sorry. Dampen vehicle with hose-gun on fine rose setting, snow foam & leave to dwell, rinse off with pressure washer on low pressure, if needed snow foam again, leave to dwell and rinse. Clean wheels with Megs Wheel Brightner or VP Billberry juice, agitate and rinse, Car wash with suds (Megs Gold Class or Soft Wash Gel) 3 bucket method, 1 suds 25lt, 1 warm water 10lt & 1 cold water 10lt (all with grit guards) I use 4 wash mits, 1 for roof and glass, 1 for mid section (below top of door to rubbing strip ~200mm from door bottom), 1 for lower panel areas & bumbers and 1 for wheels, tyres and wheel arch lips. Mits are loaded with suds, applied to car, then dipped in the warm water shaken and then again in the cold water before back to the suds to repeat, Rinse with hose-gun on fine rose setting then rinsed again with just running water (no hose-gun). I'm usually left with very little water on the panels which can be dried off with plush towel (panels), water magnet (glass) or microfibre (wheels), again using a new drying cloth for each panel/wheel, a total of 3 water magnets will be used - 1 for each side and 1 for front/rear screens. All cloths and mits are rinsed prior to be being washed in the machine.
  19. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4's I just had fitted to my Pictoris rims, reasonable rim protection. Best rim protection is not to drive so close to the kerb.
