This one has my juices going lol. Didn't it make you wanna find out how it detected your egr was blanked etc ? If it was me,I'd want to know lolAs per my sig A4 B6 130 Sport & the engine is an AVF. I know from my membership of some Audi forums that post 2003 Audi TDI's throw an EGR insufficient flow fault code if the EGR is blanked off or the EGR pipe is plugged. Some how the ECU must meter the EGR flow, but I couldn't work out where.

I'm curious-What kinda car do you have? What engine? If an EGR has no electrical connector the ecu doesn't know at all that the egr is doing it's job. That's the same reason the euro4 engine can be blanked & the euro4 cant. Same with ford,BMW,Peugeot etc. Sure your other air inlet sensors were ok? As they can throw egr eml's.My EGR doesn't have an elec connector, but the EML would keep coming back on with a EGR pipe plugged or a blanking plate fitted & clearing the code with VCDS didn't stop it.
I've never ever heard of a non sensor type egr throwing an egr eml before.

Had the same problem a while back & tried new cts but no joy. Ended up the ECU was shot.hope yours isn't this though

Did you find the cause?

No more eml on my dti 2003,after blanking egr. Had 1 initially but forgot to reset ecu duh. My 2003 vag had eml same as you,as it also had elec connector on egr etc. Ah I long for old days of just basic cars.cars nowadays are a nightmare. Had a 308hdi and it was a terrible car because of so many sensors. Even Peugeot said diagnosing faults was hard..

I agree.I did same job and ive never been so frustrated! This job can be a pigNo, not considering I just changed mine for £3.
Although I had to take the door apart to get to the latch mechanism to change the micro switch that operates the interior light. I can post instructions and some pic if anyone interested. The VW forums do not go into detail that well, as stripping down the Octavia door is not the same as a Passat and Golf. It is not a job for the faint hearted. Took me 2 hours. VW,AUDI must of been paid a large sum to make those locking mechanisms that complicated.

I think that's a lot considering perfect cars are going for around £1500 these days.
I do get what you mean, however, it's possible that something else happened your car to do the damage or that it was weakened previously. I don't really know how a DMF would be harder on the bearings if it was properly balanced.
What flywheel did you use?
Are you meaning the smf I had with VR6 kit?I honestly can't remember, but if it's important to you,I'll check my emails/bills
Ps: it was a G60 SMF . car was golf tdi ATD/EUH.

Cheers I'll give it a try in morning.

No way is there ANY difference in feel between a dmf and smf!e
Apart from feeling vibrations with smf of course. You're experiencing a new clutch not difference in flywheels

Have you seen the cost of parts??

I also stripped 3 MMT6 boxes after smf conversions & the input shafts were shot. Also stripped 2 vag (1 x 5 speed & 1x6)& both had identical shaft failures. Crank bearings were bad also. It's hard to get folk to listen to reason sometimes as smf conversions have only been sold for a number of years,& I personally know forum owners in cahoots with well-known companies that sell these kits, giving them kickbacks.(none on here that I know of anyway). Everytime a member disputed something with hard facts against smf conversions, a few (same 1's every time) discouraged the interested party from taking his advice.there's tons of money at stake so a lot of folk don't want the true facts and the damage done,to be known openly. Trust me. It's not good for your pride n joys
Ps: dmf get a bad name unnecessarily. The average dmf will last a minimum of 60k - 100k.
If you're tuning a car,you should be putting in an uprated dmf.
I know 2 of Scotlands leading transmission specialists & they think smf conversions are only good for a certain number of cars and vans.
Another thing. Folk were saying skoda were fitting smf conversions as standard. This is 100% untrue. If you don't believe me,phone skoda. Some even want a waver signed when and if they do 1

sorry but ive posted a similar post elsewhere on forum & think it is in wrong place.anyway here goes:
can anyone help out. my old mans octy mk1 ALH tdi seems to deviate between -1deg and 8degrees on cyl 1 ignition timing.can anyone shed any light on it please?
i have 2 logs here from vcds but no joy upto now from anyone that has a clue about timing etc. anyone?

think you have that wrong mate. Its normally the MAF/MAP flow rate etc that gives it away
the egr's with electrical connectors pick up on the valve opening thru a switch inside the EGR housing at the top itself.this is the reason a lot of cars cant be mapped out(egr) as everything is connected for flow rates etc
theres no way the ecu can know how the vacuum is drawing etc
same idea as mk3 mondeo that cant be mapped out. the flow rate from MAF/MAP and intake etc, when the egr is opened doesnt match the parameters stored in ecu,so says 'aha, this shouldnt be such n such, only fact available to it is the back up figures in ecu etc so switches on EML'
-
how expensive? a dmf plus clutch kit LUK etc only £430 nowadays?
go for it though. everyone to their own i suppose
-
wouldnt be a great idea to ask to see calibration etc where i live. they'd have a field day with ya then mate.id rather have a speeding ticket than a loada points for various other things(as soon as you 'd mentioned any dispute with calibration of their equipment, they'd dig you right out, theyd go over your car with a bloody magnifying glass etc)
ps:99.9% of all bluetooth elm327 adaptors are ALL the same adaptor. same gubbins, different sticker. i have 3 here all different but all 3 have the same internals

Have you tried giving the starter a tap with a suitable hammer whilst an assistant tries to start it?

seen a lotta cracked starters due to a 'tap' lol

why remap a 90? its kinda pointless mate, for all the increase you'd get. agree with other reply.get 110 injectors, bigger turbo/intercooler,& map it then.
-
dont DO IT!
i put this exact same kit on my mk4 golf & it fubar'd the bearings due to the smf not absorbing the vibrations etc. caused damage on input shaft bearing also
-
get a 130bhp mk3 mondeo thats got a euro3 emissions engine, then map the hell outta it. comfortable to drive, handles well considering the size of it,& economical. had golf's and they aint all theyre cracked up to be(both mk4's & 5's)
-
dont do it mate. my golf ended up with bad crank bearing, plus bad input shaft bearing because of a SMF conversion. the springs are there for a reason.some cars are ok with it,but some arent
ps: it was the vr6 kit i bought so take my advice if your car means a lot to you. why do you hate the dmf anyway.whats there to hate?
-
cheers mate. it seems that a lot of cars built around end of 2003 onwards have the ability to suss out whether EGR is producing flow etc.
has you EGR got an electrical connector attached to it as well as the vacuum pipe?
-
your cat could be choked.are you getting vacuum from pipes?
i had 4 golfs & loved em to start off with,& hated em in the end. so much for german engineering eh. paintwork when built was bad /thin. typical rusty arches(you'd think VW would have an answer to it eh,but hey, they make too much money to give a rats ass).
typical injector(pd arrrgh) probs, shaft probs n gearbox because of pump faults etc.
even the mk4's had better engines/turbos than the mk5's. and repair costs/parts,were a joke.mind you peugeot are worse, much worse

Im trying to post a thread with results of vcds scan on a car,but its in .csv format. i have excel, but cant figure out how to post results from excel,(or .csv from vcds)
anyone help please?
thanks

i thought the eml light wouldnt come on as there's no electrical connection to EGR so nothing(i thought) to tell ecu its opening closing etc
ps:do any of you guys have your EGR's unplugged, done away with? had a few cars that ive removed egr vacuum pipes,& car ran with less lag, better mpg etc,but this is my 1st time removing egr from equation on an octy
What car next for 1500

I think the stock VR6 handles like crap though. Didn't you?
