  1. Still doesn't answer the question of where in law does it say they had to.
  2. So what you seem to be saying is, you convinced a dealer to replace a faulty part by saying you found stuff on the internet about them failing quite a lot, and because of that it must mean they only did it because it's law.
  3. The part number is 06J145220A and you can get them off Ebay 13 quid. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Engine-Turbo-Clip-Fastener-Rod-Clip-Retainer-VW-Golf-Passat-Audi-06J145220A-/252386092431?hash=item3ac362258f:g:Q0AAAOSwHJhXMxTw Or search for the part number and there are cheaper ones from China.
  4. I bought it from TPS but it was at dealer rates. I don't know what the full retail price was at the time.
  5. No haven't had a ride on the Duck yet. Probably should really. I had a SV1000 for 10 days cos I hated it, but I know the Multi will be very different. The only gripe I've got with the SX is no temp gauge. I hate that I can't see when it's warmed up, or that it's not getting too hot. Oh, and the standard brakes were shockingly bad. Fortunately new pads is all it takes to fix that.
  6. Yes I do like the S1000XR too. What I end up depends on how I split my money. I'm selling my car too, so I'll be getting a new car and a bike. How much I'm going to spend on which I haven't decided yet.
  7. I like it. Did Spain last year on my first sat up bike, a FZ6 Fazer. Got the Z1000SX for this year. Loads better, plenty of grunt which I like cos I'm lazy, handles well, easy to ride. Now for next year I'm still pondering. Three of the lads have Ducati Multistradas which they all swear by, but in the past I've never like twins. I quite like the look of the GSX-S1000F. Also like the BMW S1000R but I'd need to add a screen.

Sounds like you need a Z1000SX. Which coincidentally I just happen to be selling :p Seriously though, I got mine for the same reason. I wanted something more sat up but still quick and with decent handling. It's so much more relaxing to ride fast because you're sat comfortably and the low down grunt lets you be lazy with gears if you want to be. Alternatives are things like the Suzuki GSX-S1000F, or maybe the BMW S1000R if you add a screen. I don't think I'll ever go back to superbikes now.
  9. Time for another change. My Z1000SX is now for sale http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252043260739?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  10. Thanks. I did look at a few before buying, to find a nice one.

  12. Get a load of this pleb from a few days ago
  13. I meant there's something missing from the beginning.
  14. I reckon there's more to that. Something happened to make the truck driver do that in the first place. The biker has been selective in his editing.
  15. Currently on retention. Previously owned by a Heather. Buyer gets the retention certificate, which can then be completed and sent to the DVLA. £649
  16. Because it covers twice as much by the sound of it. Mine cost £930 ish for 3 years top level cover, which is far more comprehensive than the Skoda one.
  17. Something which may be of interest to people looking at Warranties. I bought a Warranty Wise warranty for my Octavia vRS when I had it, and I emailed them before I did... Hello I currently own a Skoda Octavia, almost 3 years old, with only 15000 miles. As one might expect at this age and mileage it has so far remained problem free. Since I intent to keep the vehicle for several more years and as the manufacturers warranty is due to expire, for peace of mind I would like to purchase an extended warranty. I am considering purchasing one your warranties, but I wonder if you could please clarify something for me before I do. In the main these cars are reliable, but as with all vehicles there are particular problems that can occur. The more minor items costing in the hundreds of pounds are of no concern, and I would opt to pay and excess on the policy. However there are two particular issues that have been known to occur on my model of vehicle, and I wanted clarify whether they would be covered by your warranty. The first item is the automatic gearbox which has been known to cause trouble, in that is stops shifting properly. This can mean that either a new mechatronic unit (ECU) is required, or in some cases a repaired/new gearbox. In both cases this is quite costly, 3 to 5 thousand pounds. The second item is the timing chain tensioner. On a small number of Volkswagen group vehicles with the same engine, the tensioner has been known to fail as the engine is switched off (unknown to the driver), allowing the timing chain to slip. When the engine is next started the pistons contact the valves causing major engine damage, resulting in the need for a rebuilt/new engine at a cost in the region of £5000. As my vehicle gets older and covers more miles, potential failure of these two items in particular is of concern to me when the cost of repair is considered. Assuming of course that the vehicle has been properly serviced, would these items be covered by your warranty, even given the fact that on this particular vehicle they have been known to fail, and may even have been modified on later vehicles? The two items above are the only areas on concern I have with my vehicle, and if you could confirm that these items would be covered by your warranty, I would have no hesitation in purchasing a policy. Thank you. Joe Their reply... I have clarified your 2 queries with one of our technicians and he has advised that both circumstances would be covered by our warranty, as long as all routine maintenance and servicing is carried out in line with the manufacturers recommendations. Our warranties cover for the failure of mechanical and electrical parts of your vehicle. You may wish to see page 11 of the attached plan booklet for full details of parts excluded. This will confirm we don’t cover failures caused by accident damage, incorrect servicing, neglect or misuse etc.. I never had to claim under the warranty so I can't comment on how good or bad they are in that respect.
  18. And you'd rather protect their identity than let people know which company to avoid? Before I bought my Warranty Wise warranty I emailed them and got confirmation in writing that the tensioner problem was covered. I'm sure there was nothing in any small print about know problems being excluded either, but it's possible their terms have changed since.
  19. Wastegate linkage rattle as mentioned earlier in the thread. You need clip 06J145220A fitting to the linkage. Two minute job (from under the car)
  20. If your car has a belt then this thread is irrelevant to you. This thread is about failing timing chain tensioners.
  21. Why wait! I got my bike licence in 3 days, CBT to full licence. Not sure of the rules nowadays though, that was when there was only one bike licence. If you buy it and put it in your garage, you can sit on it and make engine noises. Then you'll be REALLY motivated to get your licence
  22. No I don't think it's seen much rain, if any. Certainly none since I've had it.
