  1. I had mine done recently at main dealer fixed pricing...not a fan of the dealer but was good to get a Skoda stamp in the book!
  2. Not really what I wanted to hear, but Thanks !!
  3. Can anyone confirm whether programming a blank remote key via the door lock method (old key in ignition - blank in door) will only program the key to work the remote locking or does it also allow the new key to start the car (ie programs the immobiliser to the key as well?)
  4. I just fitted 2 Rainsport 3's on the front of my Octavia VRS to replace Rainsport 2's. They seem pretty good although the sidewalls are a bit soft and you can feel the car move around a bit when cornering hard. Didn't get a huge mileage from the 2's but was pleased with general all round performance so thought I'd stick with Uniroyals.
  5. Despite poor reviews on here, I really wanted a main dealer to fit new Belt and have the booked stamped accordingly After 4 phone calls I eventually managed to get prices and booked in for Cam belt & Water Pump, Standard Service (Oil & Filter etc) and Brake Fluid replacement...all quoted at fixed prices. Dropped off on Monday morning and told it would be ready at 5pm. As I didn't plan kicking around Inverness for the day, got a train home and a lift back from a relative who was going there anyway on Tuesday morning. Just as well as they phoned at 3.30 to say it wouldn't be ready until Tuesday afternoon as they didn't have the correct water pump. Got the car back at about 2pm with a bill broken down individually into parts and labour and way above the fixed prices....that got sorted out quick enough but didn't hear a single thing about the corroded / loose brake disc shield that I'd asked them to look at and quote me for. Decided not to press the issue...will get the mechanic at work to do that for the usual couple of pints :p Reckon that'll be my first and last visit...will probably be driving something else by the time the next belt change is due and will have the next few services done at a local independent garage with some odd jobs done at work. Bottom line......avoid
  6. Have a similar problem with NSR alloy. National Tyres advised rim is slightly corroded inside and have applied a sealant....but makes my argument for a full refurb of alloys even more plausible now
  7. Cheers...will get the garage to do it then!! In next week for Service and Timing belt so may as well throw some more cash at them!!
  8. Cheers.....mistakenly posted in here and couldn't find how to move it!!
  9. In reply to my own question, I'm thinking these would be ok? (listed as splash panel halfway down) http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/skoda-octavia/laura-1z3/26623/10730
  10. Can anyone tell me if this is an easy enough job? 1 has come loose so thought I'd replace the both rears before it starts coming in contact with anything. Happy enough if it's a case of removing caliper, carrier and disc but anything more technical and I would it done at a garage! Also, be great if someone knew the part number for these (rear left and right) for a 2007 VRS 2.0TDI Thanks in advance
  11. Wondered if anyone has tackled changing the protection plates for the rear discs? One side is loose and although not coming into contact with anything, would like to change them before it gets worse! Happy enough to do it myself if it's a case of remove calipers, carrier and discs, but if it gets more involved than that I'd probably get someone to do it for me! Also, can anyone confirm if parts number would be 1J0615609 and 1J0615610 for 2007 Octavia VRS 2.0TDi ? Thanks in advance
  12. If National have a depot near you then download this voucher http://www.national.co.uk/special-offers-puncture.aspx Used them on Sunday. Had to pay for valve and balance so was a tenner in total

  16. Thanks....I'm sure the colour I saw was darker than the Shadow Chrome above but obviously not as dark as the anthracite!!! Like them both but still sometimes feel that too dark looks a bit like a someone has missing wheel trims from the distance
  17. "spirited driving"......surely not!! Hadn't heard that about them but had no trouble so far even on a few "progressive" runs.......will keep things posted but no going back now anyway !!..... Thanks for the input.
  18. Silver VRS in for new rear caliper next week as it started binding again so stripped down today...seal perished and piston pitted. Anyway.......2 units along from garage is wheel refurb specialist (handy!!) Considering having the wheels done in "Smoked Chrome" or "Chrome Smoke" (Cant remember the name!!!!) Basically it's about halfway between standard silver and anthracite....looks good on paper but difficult to visualise on my own car!.....Anyone know of pics of a silver Octy with this coloured alloys....... tried Googling to no avail Cheers
  19. Apologies for the massive delay in replying! Finally got some Uniroyal Rainsport 2 's from Camskill. About £30 per corner cheaper than local and fitted/balanced for £20 cash all in. Great so far...car feels good on the road..... reasonable as far as noise goes and great in the wet (handy up here lol) ! Thanks to those who replied!

Not one for the feint hearted! Stunning drive over the Bealach Na Ba (Applecross Pass) but would recommend going the long way round (as we did on the way back) for even more stunning views.

  23. Did it look an easy enough 'commute' ........I know the likes of Silverstone can be a nightmare getting in and out! Not sure to go for parking passes or rely on shuttle buses to get back and forth? And any recommendations for vantage points? Decided to go for general entry tickets so not tied to seats Cheers
  24. Weekend tickets booked for F1 at Spa in August. Plan is to load up and head south with an overnight stop somewhere near the Beauleiu motor museum, then Channel Tunnel to France and drive to Spa. Looking for any recommendations for campsites near the circuit for 4 nights. I know temporary ones get set up right at the gates just wondered if anyone had experience of these or should we find one further out and be prepared to travel in each day? Thanks
