New Cambelt and Water Pump
Chickenstu replied to watto62's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I had mine done recently at main dealer fixed pricing...not a fan of the dealer but was good to get a Skoda stamp in the book! -
Reprogramming Replacement Key
Chickenstu replied to Chickenstu's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Not really what I wanted to hear, but Thanks !! -
Can anyone confirm whether programming a blank remote key via the door lock method (old key in ignition - blank in door) will only program the key to work the remote locking or does it also allow the new key to start the car (ie programs the immobiliser to the key as well?)

Uniroyal Rainsport 3 Tyres
Chickenstu replied to billywhiz040480's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I just fitted 2 Rainsport 3's on the front of my Octavia VRS to replace Rainsport 2's. They seem pretty good although the sidewalls are a bit soft and you can feel the car move around a bit when cornering hard. Didn't get a huge mileage from the 2's but was pleased with general all round performance so thought I'd stick with Uniroyals. -
Despite poor reviews on here, I really wanted a main dealer to fit new Belt and have the booked stamped accordingly After 4 phone calls I eventually managed to get prices and booked in for Cam belt & Water Pump, Standard Service (Oil & Filter etc) and Brake Fluid replacement...all quoted at fixed prices. Dropped off on Monday morning and told it would be ready at 5pm. As I didn't plan kicking around Inverness for the day, got a train home and a lift back from a relative who was going there anyway on Tuesday morning. Just as well as they phoned at 3.30 to say it wouldn't be ready until Tuesday afternoon as they didn't have the correct water pump. Got the car back at about 2pm with a bill broken down individually into parts and labour and way above the fixed prices....that got sorted out quick enough but didn't hear a single thing about the corroded / loose brake disc shield that I'd asked them to look at and quote me for. Decided not to press the issue...will get the mechanic at work to do that for the usual couple of pints :p Reckon that'll be my first and last visit...will probably be driving something else by the time the next belt change is due and will have the next few services done at a local independent garage with some odd jobs done at work. Bottom line......avoid

tyre pressure loss, leaking alloys?
Chickenstu replied to VrsStebuzz's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Have a similar problem with NSR alloy. National Tyres advised rim is slightly corroded inside and have applied a sealant....but makes my argument for a full refurb of alloys even more plausible now -

vrs Replacing rear brake disc dirt plates
Chickenstu replied to Chickenstu's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
In reply to my own question, I'm thinking these would be ok? (listed as splash panel halfway down) http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/skoda-octavia/laura-1z3/26623/10730 -
Can anyone tell me if this is an easy enough job? 1 has come loose so thought I'd replace the both rears before it starts coming in contact with anything. Happy enough if it's a case of removing caliper, carrier and disc but anything more technical and I would it done at a garage! Also, be great if someone knew the part number for these (rear left and right) for a 2007 VRS 2.0TDI Thanks in advance

Wondered if anyone has tackled changing the protection plates for the rear discs? One side is loose and although not coming into contact with anything, would like to change them before it gets worse! Happy enough to do it myself if it's a case of remove calipers, carrier and discs, but if it gets more involved than that I'd probably get someone to do it for me! Also, can anyone confirm if parts number would be 1J0615609 and 1J0615610 for 2007 Octavia VRS 2.0TDi ? Thanks in advance

Tyre Puncture - If repairable, is it safe?
Chickenstu replied to seanantenbring's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
If National have a depot near you then download this voucher http://www.national.co.uk/special-offers-puncture.aspx Used them on Sunday. Had to pay for valve and balance so was a tenner in total -

Darker alloys on silver VRS?
Chickenstu replied to Chickenstu's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Thanks....I'm sure the colour I saw was darker than the Shadow Chrome above but obviously not as dark as the anthracite!!! Like them both but still sometimes feel that too dark looks a bit like a someone has missing wheel trims from the distance
