newbie!! coolant flashing

Featured Replies

hi all newbie here

looking to join the skoda family and went to look at a '54 Octavia VRS with all the toys, its well priced and seems genuine

trouble is, on the test drive the coolant light was flashing and the salesman said it always does that till its warm ?? (Is this normal?) However it got up to temp as per the dial but still flashing.

Stopped the car back at the showroom, restarted and it went off

Had a browse thru' the forum and found the numerous coolant light threads, but surely on a late model Skoda would have sorted these problems out

Does this sound like a £30 fix or more serious

It's a bit of a design flaw with the VAG expansion tank, which has not changed for years, so I think any VAG car with one could potentially suffer from the same problem. The salesman spinning you a line telling you it's normal, however a new one costs £12 for the part, so a £30 fix is feasible (not that you'd want to pay to fix a fault that existed pre-sale). I wouldn't let it put you off the car unless they refuse to sort it!
