NOOB Who cant change his own bulbs!

Featured Replies

Ive got xenons on my Octy which dont get me wrong are simply awsome, however . . . . they still utilise the swag std 501 sidelight bulbs which make the lights look a lil shoddy at times and a dull yellow in comparison.

Am happy to change em with some piaa jobbies but had a look at getting to them and well . . . . . . . . . . . cant . . . . . . . . . .

Anyone with xenons know any quick way or is it literally remove the works before you can?!?!?!?

There's no quick way as such, although removing the unit isn't too time consuming.

Disconnect battery!

Remove the indicator housing (8mm socket required IIRC)

Remove the 4 bolts holding the headlight in place (T25 perhaps?)

Remove the headlight, taking care not to damage the headlight washer.

Un clip wiring plugs (two on N/S and one on O/S)

Remove 7 (I think) torx screws around the base of the rear cover (with lamp unit facing down)

Remove rear cover, don't pull it too hard as there are wires attached to it.

Once inside you will be able to locate the sidelight bulb, which just pulls out.

Refitting is fairly obvious. Take care to make sure the rear cover of the lamp is properly seated and not trapping any wires.

I did a more detailed guide some time ago which you should find with a search, if you need it.

LOL Dont look that way m8 :(

As phil says above, but some masking tape on the top edge of the bumber and round the washers, stops any scrapes whe removing the headlight unit. I fitted Phillips Bluevision 34000K sidelight lamps which i got free with an order from Powerbulbs. They give a much whiter light and look better with the xenons thantthe yellowish ones that were fitted originally.
