help with parts

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently bought a bonnet, grill and hinges off ebay to replace my slightly damaged one.

It was sold as a 2003 Octavia bonnet, so I thought "Hmm, that'll fit my 54 plate vRS" and I bought it.

Got it home (in the back of my Leon Cupra - that was a squash!!) and it doesn't fit!

The hinges are straight, as opposed to kinked, and the windscreen washers are mounted on the underside of the bonnet rather than the windscreen scuttle. Also, the grill is about 80cm wide instead of the 60odd that my (broken) grill measures.

Is this a Superb bonnet? Does anyone know, so I can resell it to someone who CAN actually use it??

The bonnet itself is about 10-15 cm longer than mine - difficult to tell exactly due to the damage to my original.

Heelp?!?!?

It might be a pre facelift one. They might be different.I would of thought a superb would have been a lot bigger.

Mine is a pre facelift, I think...

TBH I really don't know, never having seen the front of the car intact!

If I phone a Skoda garage with the part number (I can find this on the grill) will they be able to tell me??

The octavia was face lifted in 2003 I think,so if it is an early 2003 bonnet you have bought I don't think it will fit a 54 plate.

The facelift was on the Y prefix, co-inciding with the move from ?, LX and SLX to Classic, Ambiante and Elegance trim designations, and from lensed to clear headlights.

For the OP, based on my 52 reg example being as your vRS, you've got a pre-facelift bonnet. Hit the Fleabay disputes procedure, because you've not been supplied with what you were told you were.

TBH I'm not that bothered because it was cheap enough for me to relist it and sell it on for the same money at least...

I just need to know for sure that whoever I sell it to can definitely use it!

Thanks folks!

The windscreen washer mounts are the dead giveaway. They were changed in the facelift (ok, so were the headlights and grille width, but who goes around measuring how wide radiator grilles are?)

So the one with the washers attached to the underside of the bonnet is older?? (ie between 98-00)??
