brake fitting costs?

Featured Replies

How much would a garage charge me to fit new 312mm brake set up?

How many hours work is it?

Also what size disks and pads do i need for thye rears as standard?

Cheers,

John

Erm, shouldn't take more than 2hours.

So based on my local garage pricing, i could get that done for about £30p/h cash, or £30p/h+vat card.

Either way, ask them how much they charge, and base it around 2hours work max.

mmm picked up some new disks and pads for the rear this morning, not sure on there sizes, but i went into a local independent respected motorfactor where he just looked up some code based on my,

-> Fabia, 2006, 1.9TDi, No wear sensors.

The Basic disks i picked up have the code - NBD 877.

Pads - BW337

2 secs whilst i just go find the new standard disks and pads i picks up this morning.

How much did you pay for your rear disks and pads?

Front and rears fitting discs and pads with me supplying was £100.

Fitting fronts to 312mm and them supplying the discs at a main dealer was about £140 all in.

£46inc VAT

Just been quoted £90 to fit the 312mm set up and rear discs and pads, which id have to supply. Does that sound reasonable?

rear Disks and pads on ebay are £33 all in. Again is that good?

Many thanks

John

I'd say thats working on £45p/h, but is that £90 inc VAT?

Yeah that sounds reasonable. I was happy to pay £46.

Just got off the phone to skoda, they want £20 each disc and £30 for the disc!

Sounds good.

On a side note, ive had my 312's on for around 500miles now, and im not that impressed with their braking power, i mean push hard on the pedal and it stops well, but it seems there is a fair bit of travel on the pedel until it bites.

I remember reading somewhere about needing to have somthing bleed? Someone said that they had the same issue as what im feeling, they went back, and they bled somthing, and it was a marked improvment?

I need to get this sorted, but i dont want to go in saying 'Someone told me i needed to come back in and get somthing bled please'.

Brakes need to be bled when installing yes.

Just tell them the peddle feels spongy and could they check the brakes/re bleed them.

£33 is for what brand of parts?

And skoda will do you the discs at £33 each and £20 for a set on pads per axle? If so that's quite reasonable, but I actually run OEM discs with EBC red ceramic V3 pads and they perform a lot better especially in the wet.

Brakes had a full fluid change to 5.1 dot at the time of fitting, I think its somthing to do with bleeding somthing by the caliper?
