Superb 1.9 PD130 "Sluggish".

A couple of days ago thought my Superb seemed a little "sluggish" when accelerating.

That was confirmed today on a 250 mile round trip to Devon.

T he engine seemed reluctant to rev above 4000 when going up through the box.

Was able to manage 80mph on the motorway but any hill killed off the speed in top gear.

When climbing steeper hills had a job to get the engine above 2500rpm and had to change down to 2nd at times.

Is this an air filter/mas air flow problem?

Thanks in anticipation.

Dave

It does sound like it Dave, but it could be something as simple as poor fuel quality, try another garage to fill up at next time, and if your derv filter has done more than 60k replace it or at the least drain it for water.

A couple of days ago thought my Superb seemed a little "sluggish" when accelerating.

Mine had recently the 120kkm cambelt change service done and after that the engine felt also sluggish as you said. Turned out that the valve that controls the boost in turbo (N75? or something) had mysteriously went lazy and after that got replaced all the power was back in. Might be worth the check. It's a cheap part to replace (around 50e).

Hope it helps!

Investigated the problem today, on removing the air filter top housing found that part of the air filter itself had "ruptured" and was possibly blocking the air flow.

Duly went out and bought one and I am pleased to report my Superb is now Superb again!

Has this vehicle been serviced to specification? Who did it?

rotodiesel.

car has 97000 on the clock and has a full main dealer history.

The air filter that was "Ruptured" was dated 2005 and was a VAG genuine part.

The place that had ruptured was at the back end of the housing looking from the front of the car and it had lifted up and appeared to be blocking the flow through the filter.

Any ideas why it could have ruptured?

Dave

Heat I would imagine.

When you say ruptured do you mean split or kinda folded up on itself?

The plastic "strengthening" bar that runs down the top centre of the filter appears to have lifted at one end and the centre part of the filter sections have lifted upwards in a "fist" shape.

Dave

Yeah thats as I imagined it, restricted air flow, anyway tip top at least it only cost £8 to sort out.

I suppose that that failure is solved now. But it is possible that it is due to the N75 valve (solution: to clean or to change), that with graphs of the diagnostic software Vag-Com but easily.

Had a few Passats do the same with the air filters. First thing I always check now before I jump in with both feet and start chaging MAFs and N75s
