Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted one of these? Tempted to get one for the new octy, the list of features looks impressive.

Parrot Bluetooth Car Stereo RK8200

I have one

I am fitting it this weekend subject to the facia adapter for my roomster arriving and will be doing a guide and a review of it folks.

On first impressions, it's well packaged, feels as well made as any other kenwood / sony etc, and in the flesh looks ok. The centre dial could be a little more discreet I suppose.

As I say, subject to facia arriving, I can post up more info and a review at the weekend

Nice one Fluffmeister, i'll look forward to your finding's.

Know what you mean about the dial but it's nothing major.

mrh, good find on AVForum, Sounds like they've got a few glitches though:confused:

Think i'm going for an Alpine unit now instead. No Blueteeth:D on it but got a separate hands free kit so not too bothered about that. Seems like the Parrot needs a few problems ironing out.

Still look forward to your review oh fluffy one, I'm looking for a bluetooth ready headunit for the Mondeo. :)

Well, youngsyd is doing me proud on the single din facia, so I will be getting on with the job tomorrow when I get back from Hamburg.

Parrot have released a new firmware for it, so I will be testing that out as well ...... keeeerching:D

I love the list of bug fixes though :) 26MB file as well so looks like a major re-write of the firmware.. I wonder what "various issues" were

List of changes:

----------------

Version 1.01 :

- Improve stability for iPod/iPhone

- Improve Tuner initializing

- Fix bad initializing of tuner at startup when an iPod 2G is connected.

- Fix various issues

And ... ?

Well, I only got to use it over the weekend as I am in Belfast now, but have a bit of diatance to do over the weekend so I was going to write something up then.

First impressions though,

Pairs with Iphone perfectly

Charges Iphone and uses Ipod functionality controlled through the head unit

Radio reception is good

Sound quality as good as dance

Voice quality on the bluetooth is good in the car and people say they can hear me clearly

Voice dialing works well

Bad things so far

Display, the radio only shows the frequency, not the station title etc.

Radio, AUto follow is flaky, so sometimes you end up hitting the scan button (hopefully to resolved in a firmware update)

Facia panel is sometimes awkward to get on and off, but now I have got used to it it's ok.

more when I have spent more time with it :)

we want to know more and see pix

Just to update this thread...

Halfords have issued a recall notice due to a software fault and problems with the fascia not clipping correctly.

If anyone's purchased a unit I would advise you to contact your supplier for details - I'm unsure at this stage if the recall affects all units or just a batch.

Halfords customers can call me on 0845 057 9000, asking for JB.

Or PM me :)

When did this happen mate? there have been rumours about halfords recalling the units for a few weeks now, but nothing official from Parrot. Can you tell us more, is it an internal Halfords thing or is it something that has come from the Parrot distributors?

cheers, Fluff'

The information I've got is dated a couple of weeks ago.

It turns out that it's not an official Parrot recall although I'm told Halfords were the only high street supplier to have the RK8200, and they're certainly the largest in any case.

The situation is that there was a software fault on a number of units. Parrot were unable to inform us of the exact percentage so Halfords took the decision to recall all units. The chances are it's only a small number that are affected.

Halfords are planning to stock the unit again, and units with the newer software should filter through the supply chain soon.

I can 100% confirm the rumours though - Halfords are definitely recalling the RK8200.

Does that help...? :)

Okey Dokes

Mine is working fine save for a couple of minor niggles so I am happy, I just wondered if this was something new or the same recall that was issued in June.

cheers matey

I think the issue is that the front/fascia is difficult to attach, causing people to force and brake it

Yes there are some issues with the software, but can be soved with firmware upgrades

(my source is a wiz kid in halfrauds, who I had to force in a corner and answer closed questions by Yes/No. Worked a treat!)

I think the issue is that the front/fascia is difficult to attach, causing people to force and brake it

That's the other reason Halfords recalled it.

My source? I work in their customer services. :P

Ok, scrub my statement, some kind of new software bug has appeared, the main rotary knob only recognised maybe 1 in every 5 turns, the buttons stopped registering pushes at random and the RDS info on the radio never works and it's now stopped talking to the piephone.

It's out, been RMA'd and replaced with Kenwood BT8041U which is really stable, does what it says on the tin and looks very minimalist which I like.

RK8200, avoid it folks until Parrot sort the bugs out, it could have been so so so so much better.
