Standard Display - What can it do ?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Not being a RTFM kind of guy i was wondering if there was anything that can be changed on the standard display in a Octy II Classic? I think at the mo it displays mileage, time and temp - can it do anything else, and if so, how ? I came from a S***roen Picasso and even tho it was a junk car, the displays were quite trick.

I've considered a maxidot but the wife unit mostly drives the car weekdays while i'm stuck with a nasty little fiesta van and i dont think i can justify coughing out for something that i so rarely get to see :(

TIA :)

Martz

Does the Classic have the trip computer?

If it does then the standard display shows either trip mileage or total mileage plus the time in the bottom section.

The top section is selectable - outside temperature, current mpg, average mpg, average speed, miles until refuel, miles covered, total drive time - scroll through with the rocker on the end of the RH stalk

There are 2 sets of the above data selectable with a short push of the button under the RH stalk-

1 for current journey (all reset if engine swtiched off over 2hrs)

2 cumulative average (resets on reaching 9999miles or 99hrs)

As well as the auto resets both can be reset manually with a long press on the button under the RH stalk.

Y'see the picasso had pretty much all of that - it just didn't handle, stop, go or do pretty much anything without a drama :(

i'm asking because my missus is constantly boiling my head about the fuel economy of the octy - i've done rough figures and it's doing in and around 50 to the gallon while doing reasonably short trips (never more than 25 miles at a time) and i dont think she beleives me that you can have a car that goes reasonably well and can still "out-economize" the big green heap of junk we had previously.

Also, the picasso had the "miles left to empty" feature and she relied on that since she believes that once the fuel guage strays anywhere into the red the car is going to run out of fuel INSTANTLY!

oh well ......

don't all octavias have the miles to empty? I do not have maxidot and I have it.

I just worded it a little differently in my post - miles to refuel

I had a Megane that counted down the miles to refuel very carefully then when it reached 50 miles left the low fuel light came on and the miles left went to zero! Never could figure out the logic in that one!

SWMBO has a Micra - "BONG!!" low fuel light - panic!! Stopped immediately and on the phone. "How am I gonna get to a filling station?!?" (Despite fuel computer saying 60 miles left in the tank)

Tried to explain that it would be pointless having the light come on as you ran out of fuel cos you would be able to tell that by lack of noise and forward motion but it all fell on deaf ears. Needless to say she managed the half mile to the nearest station without further drama.

The Classic is the base model and doesn,t have the MPG figures display IIRC.

I had a classic as a hire car the other week and it doesn't show MPG or miles remaining. Just time & temp & miles

ah well not to worry, it's still a lovely car even tho i think skoda made some strange choices over what to include and exclude - remote central locking being one, and computer toys being another :)
