Air vents closing by themselves?

Featured Replies

On my 05 Elegance from time to time the centre 2 dash vents close internally - at least that's what it feels like. No air coming out when climate control is on auto low. Then, after maybe 10 minutes they open up again & loveley cold air blasts out.

Pushing the little buttons below the sat nav (arrow down into driver's lap, arrow angle to driver's face) appears to make no difference, either when vents are closed or open for that matter.

I can't find anything in the manual about this, is it normal, is there some setting I can use to avoid this? Thanks for any light on this.

Climate control works by varying the amount of air coming out of the vents and the fan speed to maintain a set temp, so its quiet normal for the vents to open/close themselves.

When interior is too cold the controls send most of the warm air to the footwells

When interior is too hot it sends most of the cool air to the face vents

Thanks for that, still seems odd to me that even if I press the button for face vent air, the vents don't open. But if I turn up the temp to 25 or so, the vents open, turn down to 19, they stay open. I love technology but I do like a manual override!

You may also find that until the engine has fully warmed up, the vents may stay closed (or open depending on ambient temperature) because the system is trying to keep the interior at the temperature you have set.
