Which is which?

Featured Replies

Okay this is probably a really stupid question, but I just went to start fitting my new Infinity 652is in my Octy vRS and realised I don't know which of the OEM wires in the door is positive an which is negative.

I have a red wire and a brown wire with a red stripe.

Help!!

Rob

IIRC it's marked on the original connectors...

It shouldn't matter, so long as you get all of them the right way round! :)

Rob.

yep spot on consistency (spelling??) is more important..

I've gone for the striped one as positive.

Took the drivers one out and it's brown-white and blue-white. Argh. Both have a stripe! Going for brown as +, blue as -

You'll be able to tell by listening if you've got them wrong... :)

Hey RobClubley!

Your question is easy to answer!!!

Look at the original speaker and look closely where the original plugs go. Next to the metal pins r tiny markings for +ve and -ve. If u refer to the plug and look at the way the plug goes in, u will b able to decipher which is which.

Also do the 6 1/2" speakers fit in without hitting the metal on the door behind the speaker backet?

I struggled to get 5 1/4" Infinity's in!

They _just_ fit. But I think the magnet is touching the metal bit of the door.

I think I'll take them out and fit a small spacer when I get a chance.

They sound good though.

I have another pair - shame the rear ones are a completely different shape.

i did the same with mine, took it that the stripped one was positive but then used the brown as positive on the passenger side...

Just finished installing my Infinty 652i's and at first I was confused as to what polarity the wires were. There are NO markings on the stock speakers so I performed a simple 9v battery test on the stock speakers:

When the cone pushes outward' date=' whichever tab the positive of the battery is connected to is the positive speaker terminal.

Therefore armed with this info I could establish that:

Drivers side:

BLUE/WHITE = +

BROWN/WHITE = -

Passenger side:

RED = +

BROWN/RED = -

I think someone earlier in this post has connected their speakers assuming brown was positive - This means you are out of phase!!!

Hope this helps

Dave

BTW the Infinity's sound very nice!!![/quote']

Just came across this on another thread. So I have both of mine wrong - will change em round when I take them out to put the spacer in.

What are you doin with the other pair? I have a nice 6 1/2" hole in my rover ;)

IIRC when you pull/cut the wires off the original plug, look down into where the wires were attached and you will see a very small + or -. You need good light though.
