Towbar question

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Carolyn has a 2004 1.9 pd 130 Comfort. We have been talking about fitting a towbar to it for towing my race car when it is finished. It doesn't weigh alot and will probably only need a smallish single axle trailer.

Is it easy to fit a towbar to the superb and roughly how much does it cost. Also as we'll only be towing the car on a few occasions through the year we were thinking of a removeable one. Are these safe??

Cheers for any help and advice.

I have a Bosal removable one fitted to my car for towing a caravan. Works a treat.

If you want something cheap, then ebay is your best bet. Quite a few folks on here have fitted there own in only a couple of hours.

I bought a fixed Bosal towbar for a Passat on eBay cheaply. It's really easy to fit with no drilling - all the holes are in the car (some covered in painted masking tape inside the boot).

Have an assistant to help you remove the back bumper skin - it's floppy, big and easily scratched. The rear light lenses have to come out to get at the upper bumper fixings.

I could fit one now within a couple of hours - I had a ridiculous fitting quote from my local dealer...

Cool Cheers Guys

Gonna have a look at the westfalia one I think off ebay. Will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Check the acceptable nose weights on them. As I understand it, the removable balls can't take as much as the fixed type. That said, I doubt a properly balanced trailer will cause too many problems.

Should be ok as the race car weighs bugger all.

Fitted the Westfalia detachable to my 03 Superb, also the wiring kit for the car.

A doddle!
