Superb gearstick moving in third when accelerating

Featured Replies

My Superb 1.9 TD Comfortline's gear stick has statred to move while in third gear, Its very noticable, when i put my foot on accelerator the gearstick moves backwards and each time i accelerate it does this. In conjuction i noticed the clutch can be very light at these times. Any ideas? my garage man tells me that all mountings for engine and gearbox are secured

How far is it moving? They all do that to a certain degree...

its nearly comin all the way back to neutral, the clutch gets seriously too and jumps back into place!

Not sure to be honest if that is a problem with the amount of movement you are saying, I know that on some cars they can pop out of gear and third is a prime candidate for it and it can mean there is something wrong but I am not technical enough to know what it is or if its serious...

Someone on here might be able to help you out, but if I was you I would take it to another garage and get a second opinion.

Have a look at the snub mount at the front of the engine.

rotodiesel.

I think it's a layshaft bearing that causes it iirc.

Hmm...

I think I've come across this before... I'm sure the Mk2 Golf suffers with this...

Lummox? Can't you get solid shaft bearings to try and prevent this movement or is that for something different?

Thanks for your help guys. Would your above suggestions also result in the clutch becoming light while driving and sometimes jumpin back into place or clicking out maybe is a better way to describe it.
