Changing front brake pads?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I want to change my front brakepads because the garage told me so.

I have done this on my former cars, but not on my Superb.

Do I need any tools? I have bought new Mintex pads with sensors, so that is in place.

How do I push the pistons back? On my Saab, I used a big pipe wrench, but someone told me that on some cars you have to twist the pistons while pushing it back.

Can someone please give me an explanation on how to change the front pads?

Remove road wheel with steering on full lock to present the caliper to you, undo brake fluid tub top, remove the rattle spring and push the piston back by inserting a long screwdriver/bar between the disc and old pad, (fronts don't need winding, rears do) prise out the two caps on the back of the caliper and undo the two bolts with an allen key, 6mm I think iirc, remove old sensor from carrier and discard, put new pads in but avoid copperslip on the rubberised squeal shim on the piston side of the pad or it will lift it off, use some around the edges of the pad or they will squeal, fit new sensor wire in to plug and reverse fit the rest until finished, hth.

The hex key you need to unscrew the slider pins is 7 mm AF.

rotodiesel.

Yes it is, I remember now :thumbup:

Make sure you dont get the n/s and o/s pads mixed up if they are different side to side like the OE pads. They have direction arrows on them.
