 How loud is loud? Most gearboxes have transmission whine of some description somewhere along the line - could just be that...

My Fabia vRS has a slight whine at that speed in 4th IIRC, but I noticed that it happens at the same engine speed in any gear, or in neutral, or with the clutch disengaged. I did ask the dealer last time it was there and they couldn't hear anything unusual, so maybe it's just normal engine noise- it hasn't changed at all in nearly 30k miles. I've not been in another Fabia vRS for a very long time, so maybe 'they all do that sir'.

As ap0gee says, most cars have some sort of whine/whistle/rattle somewhere.

Mine whines in 4th & 5th at around 1500rpm and when i let off. Done this ever since ive had it, never had any effect on the performance.

Can't tell if you mean whining or whinnying?

Whinnying could be those rampant horses under the bonnet.

Mine whines quite a bit in 3rd/4th gear doing around 30-40 when I let off the accelerator.

Hiya, i've noticed this whining noise too. It only appears at between 30-40 mph. It sounds like its coming from the rear wheels and I thought it was possibly the rear wheel bearings? It has got slightly worse recently. My fabia vrs is a 53-plate with 54k miles on it.
