Broken Window motor?

Featured Replies

I’ve tried a search on here but can’t find a post where someone’s had a similar problem.

My front passenger window has been playing up lately. Sometimes it works fine, usually when the car has been left for several hours. Then when operating it will often act as if it has met some resistance when closing, usually about three quarters of the way up. It then rolls back down. When trying to close it after this it only moves about 2 inches with the switch held. When trying to open further it also only moves two inches before stopping which means having to release and then pressing the switch again with the window only moving two inches at a time.

Before anyone mentions it I have tried re-setting the one touch (both methods, although with the key it won’t fully open as it still only moves two inches at a time). I’ve also tried removing the fuse and even disconnecting the battery. The runners all seem clear and I’ve lubricated them and polished the window.

The only thing that seems to work is leaving it overnight when invariably it will work the next day but only for a short period until the process is repeated.

I’ve taken it to my dealer who have suggested it will need a new motor 6Q2 959 801 A 00E at a price of £129.69 + VAT and fitting (total £221.10!).

Does this sound right? Also, forgive my ignorance, from what I’ve read on other threads is there a motor and a regulator or are they the same unit?

Anyone? Ross?

I'd remove the motor and check the regulator moves freely, if it does then a motor is most likely.

Motor and regulator are seperate items.

The bosses car had a very similar problem to this. Wound down ok but if only opened half way and tried to close would fully open even on the up button. It eventually went bang 25 miles from home when a small plastic bracket went 'dink' - they only do that once! It needed a full winder mechanism the motor was ok. got the winder from Euro car spares a bit cheaper than Skoda but surprisingly better built but boy is it a b**** to fit mucho cursing

My front left hand side window started acting funny a couple of days back. Press the up button and it winds up half way and stops. I press the up button again and it comes down fully.

After 3-4 tries it finally went up but not absolutely.

Gave it to a garage and they say the winder wire has broken. Inquired the price in the Opera House area in Mumbai - winder is available for INR 4400 !

But a Skoda technician says - the winder is not available seperately, it comes with the motor. Is it true ? The full assembly (winder + motor + coupler) I am getting for INR 8500.

Can some one throw some light?

ps - I have an Octavia vRS - 2004 model

The regulators are available separately here in the UK at around £50.
