Rear camber on 4x4 hatch?

Featured Replies

Just had four new tyres fitted on my 4x4 hatch, can anyone confirm what the rear camber should be and whether it's adjustable?

Place I took it to said there was excessive rear negative camber and this had lead to premature wear of the outside edge of the rear tyres, but that there was no adjustment.

I'm not convinced they were comparing to the correct settings for the 4x4 though!

I've got it booked into AmD for alignement but don't really want to spend more money if it's within tolerance!

Thanks in advance

In a recent survey by "the caravan club magazine" (I have not read it) there were many reports of 4x4's having excessive tyre wear which the dealers could not solve.

Can't say I have monitored this to any great degree, always put down my excessive tyre wear to my driving style.

forge make adjustable camber kits for TT 4x4 so assume they fit the octy as well

as std is not adjustable.

2wd defo not adjustable.

I hadn't thought of looking there :)

I'll stick with AMD and see what they say, they've always done a good job in the paste and probably do the Forge bits if required.

Cheers!

Camber is not adjustable without fitting aftermarket tie bars which AMD sell & they are also available from Forge & they cost

Thanks all,

Think they have compared to 'standard' suspension settings (which is what it says on their print-out).

I'll see what AmD have to say, but there's no way I'm paying those sought of prices for Forge bits! Cheaper (over the time I have the car) to replace the rear tyres every 15K!

Mind you, I suppose I should have ask what the tyre life should be (Dunlopo SP Sport 2000E).

Just looked at the images' date=' unfortunately I haven't got the page for the 4x4 rear. Got 4x4 and FWD front & FWD rear. Should be similar

Unfortunately the figures in the above technical data do NOT apply to the 4X4. (See Note 8).

Hence the following, Denis:

unfortunately I haven't got the page for the 4x4 rear

and the bit that says FWD rear.

I spotted that, and it looks like the camber angle for the rear on TaviaRS's sheet was what their machine was indicating - hence my assumption that the 4x4 is different and why their machine says my 4x4 has way too much camber!

AmD will sort it I'm sure (only not with Forge bits or a big hammer) :)

10/10 for those caveats, Jon. My post was just in case anybody read too much into 'Should be similar  ' which, of course, is also qualified. But I am happy to defer as always to your infinite wisdom and knowledge. :D

PS We really need a copy of the 4X4 rear suspension technical specs...

Phoned the tyre place back yesterday, they were very helpful, and it seems they selected the wrong model when they did mine and compared the settings to FWD cars.

They agreed to check the readings again (they still had a record in their database), but had to ring me back as they had a car on the rig. They rang me back later to confirm that, sorry, yes, your rear camber is in spec for the 4x4.

They even offered to take it back in so I could get a proper printout.

So no trip to AmD necessary, just need to keep an eye on those rears though...

Thanks all!!!
