Featured Replies

my fabia vrs is losin oil some where:eek::(any ideas folks

Is it leaking or burning it?, how much is it losing?

its not leaking it,about a litre every 2 weeks matey

It must be burning it then, the usual suspects are:

pistons/bores

piston rings

valve guides/valve stem seals

turbo seals

How many miles do you drive over two weeks?, do you drive it hard? and are you using the correct oil?

Somewhat concerning, most vRS's use little if any oil. I rarely have to top mine up, if its not leaking then there's only one other way out and that's via the exhaust.:(

Usual causes as listed above need following up.

They do use oil over time, mine uses about 1 litre per 10,000 miles, has done since new.

It used about 3 liters in 3 miles when the turbo went.

If it's using that much oil, start it up and see if there is blue smoke out the exhaust and when you rev it that seems amount really high and I would have thought you would see the blue smoke.

Like Fordfan says, is it the correct PD oil in it or been used in the past as you can expect hurrendous, (well accelerated) engine wear if this is not used as the PD oil is formulated to cope with the higher pressures of this particular injection system as it uses cams to press the injector down.

the car has only 35,000 miles :(

Statement of the probably obvious, but you won't see oil under the car with a drip from somewhere like the oil filter housing as there is the plastic guard under the car. The oil would most likely pool on this, then be dispersed when you're moving at speed.

Worth checking that and checking the obvious before you start taking the turbo off or the head off the engine. A compression test would probably help identify things too.

As Cheezemonkhai says, check on the sump guard for oil, also check the sump gasket is OK as you could loose oil this way if it's leaking and you won't see it very easily with the guard on.

Try shining a torch down the bottom and have a good look about.

As I said earlier, you would probably see if it was burning loads of oil when you drive it if the oil loss is as bad as you say. 1 litre in 2 weeks is loads.
