derv drivers rejoice - diesel alternative on its way

Featured Replies

Looks promising... notice they don't say how much it'll cost per litre though.

There are only a 2 or 3 pulp mills operating in the UK, and I'm not sure if they even produce black liquor with the processes they use, so its unlikely to be much benefit to us over here.

Interesting idea though.

True, but you don't have that many oil wells either - OK, the North Sea oil fields, but transport/import is unavoidable. Think about the forest industries in Scandinavia, Russia... and if we in Scandinavia could use DME, it will be more of the traditional juice left for you :)

The UK does have some onshore oil wells.. just nowhere near the size of the northsea. Clicky..

Either way there is still plenty left. :)

It's clearly a very "green" fuel, so as long as it doesn't cost more than 90p/l including retail profit, and greedy Gordon keeps his mitts off, it could be done for similar cost to diesel.

We work for a paper mill recycling lots of 'Black Liquor' to land every week. Not sure if it is the same stuff though so I'll have to find out...:holmes:

think you will find that that many businesses are now looking at using bi-products to produce their own power needs.

Black Ligour is one example, another is the brewing industry using "draft" to convert to power.
