Front Driver side whirring/whizzing noise

Featured Replies

The last couple of times I've been on the motorway driving at speed I've noticed a whirring/whizzing noise which seems to be coming from the front driver side. Any ideas what it might be? Someone said wheel bearings?

If it is the wheel bearings are they covered under waranty? Its an 06 vRS and still under warranty 'til April.

Its going in for a 30k service soon so hopefully can get sorted then. Oh also. When will the service warning message come on? When it gets to 30k or before?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a wheel bearing, I had the same one go on mine. The key is to determine whether the noise is related to engine speed or road speed - the later would point to it being the wheel bearing. If I recall, I had to get a whole hub assembly rather than just replace the bearings, I think this was about £140 all in, I would have thought that this would be covered under the warranty.

Car is booked into Telfords in Carlisle in a week.

Was drivng round last night trying to pin point it a bit more but think I've just confused myself more.

I can notice it sometimes at lower speeds now but then it sounds like back driver side. But I also noticed a bit of a quiet squeel when turning left, which from what I've read somewhere would go with right wheel bearing? sound correct? couldnt tell where the squeel came from because of pitch.

Thanks once again.
