Can someone recommend me a head unit?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm thinking of changing the standard head unit in my Fabia vRS and wanted some suggestions. I have a JVC head unit with a USB port which I've used in my last two cars which has been very good but I just want something newer and will be good for when I upgrade the speakers and add other bits in the future.

One thing it just has to have is a USB port as pretty much all my music is now in mp3 format and I use a 4GB flash drive which I also use for Uni work.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

I have a Pioneer P7900UB and I quite like it (probably worth more than the car ). Latest equivalent model is the Pioneer P7000UB. It has a USB connector at the rear, and I just leave a 160gb portable hard disk filled with MP3's hidden behind the dash. It has good upgrade options with plenty of outputs and all that sort of stuff.

I have a Pioneer DEH P 700 BT and it is a fantastic HU, it has an USB connection and Bluetooth to connect a phone.

My phonebook is stored in the HU and when I enter my car it automaticly synchronizes with the phone. It has 3 pre outs to connect amplifiers.

You can connect your ipod and control it trough the HU or with the remote control.

It plays beautifull. I know some people would say it is better to buy an HU with high voltage pre out but for me it is perfect.:)

Yeah I've been looking at this one. Does look good. Thanks.

I have the 200 version of that and it is excellent, best head unit I have ever bought.

My iPod is connected via the supplied USB cable and all my songs play with no effort on my part, it even tells you the name of the song from the Tag.

Well worth it in my opinion

Just found this:

Car Audio Direct - Alpine iDA-X300 inc iPod Cable - USB Player

I take it the x300 is green and the 200 and 100 are different colours. When it says "Includes Ipod Cable" is that a USB lead so you can just plug in a flash drive and attatch another Ipod cable to that to connect the Ipod (if you see what I mean). Or is it a dedicated Ipod cable? I dont have an Ipod at the moment (but mates of mine do and they could use it wile they are in the car) and want it mainly for a flash drive which I also use for Uni.

I've got the Apline iDA X100 and love it to bits. Doesn't match the illumination in the BMW, but its so nice to use, sounds great and looks the part! You won't find a better iPOD orientated head unit imho, and I don't miss having a CD drive at all. :)

Sell these for a living and they are almost 3 different units, basically differences are:

300 Doesnt do i pod out the box whixh is why they supply extra lead it is designed for NON i pod application but still works with it.

200 Does come with everything for i pod out the box, more pre outs and a twin rotary knob which makes searching for tracks 2 - 3 times as fast as the 300

100 Is all singing and all dancing. 3 pre outs, twin rotary knob amd also a tft screen not the crappy text one, you wil have all your info displayed eg albumn art, artist and track title all at the same time.

And if you are worried about it matching the dash then the 100 can be turned red which is spot on almost to match the interior!

they all have dedicated i pod cable in the back (the 300 you normally have to purchase separately) as well as a dedicated USB socket on a cable so you can run both to glove box and use whichever one you or a mate has or even a flash drive.

would the ida-x100 connect to my nokia 6230i or would you have to buy an adapter.

i know it works on the i phone.

shame it dos'nt glow green like the 300.

Same here ... iDA-X100 equipped with a BT adapter to run an iPhone 3G and cabled so that you could hide the iPhone out of sight in the glovebox as an iPod , would be pretty much an ideal for the Roomster, but I can't bring myself to stick a high colour front-end in a sea of green.

Mine came with a USB cable and the iPod cable costs extra, but isn't needed for the newer iPods anyway.

I been investigating the X100, and it looks commendable! I may wellinvest when I get paid some overtime next month. you can get them for about £165 delivered from Hong Kong on Ebay.

try the cda-9887r alpine latest imprint ready all dancing and singing unit???
