Sun 5 Oct ~ Scunthorpe & Doncaster to Malton

Featured Replies

Hi folks ...

After some discussion amongst the committee, we've decided to offer a slight change to the previously advertised event.

Sunday 5 October (date is the same)

We had been looking at the Castle Howard website, however, they call October high season consequently ...

the house & gardens £10.50, gardens only £8,

concessions are £9.50 & £7.50 respectively.

Full prices here ...

We thought that with the ever increasing cost of living, that seemed a little dear,

so we've decided to meet in Malton market place at 1145 instead.

Those who still wish to go on to Castle Howard can do so (approx 6 miles),

anyone else can browse the antique shops, or sample the cafes & pubs of

Malton. (Yum yum!)

There's scope for an optional drive to the coast or around the moors too.

The AA route planner suggests that a 10am start from The Farmhouse Pub, by SUFC, Scunthorpe, should give an arrival in Malton of 1135am, going via M180, Doncaster North Services (1020ish to meet any Doncastrians), M18, M62, A63, A19, A64 a journey of 69 miles.

Our friends from the Yorkshire section intend to meet us at Malton.

Looking a little further ahead, there's the Crich Red October event on Sun 26 October, this year the weather will be excellent, I'm going to write to Carol Kirkwood at the BBC to arrange it, he says with optimism, as the last couple have been freezing and raining.

Hope to see you soon ... Darren

Well it turned out nice in Malton, although, some of the roads were a bit damp in laces from the previous night's rain. Four cars / seven people attended, we had advance apologies from 3 people & one no-show.

We spent a whie chatting in a nice cafe bar on the Market Place, then everyone split up to do there own thing.

I was in one of two cars that went to Bridlington for chips, we followed a black Scooby down one of the favourite biker B roads, the six aerials, the camera in the back window & the 2 uniformed guys weren't exactly subtle. However, a couple of bikers nearly went for a big overtake past them, luckily they realised my slow down hand signal was for a reason.
