Fuel efficiency - A Warning on figures

The older generation ;)

mpg is for those who consider the uk "Great Britain" who dont like the imperial units changed to metric and who still want their milk and beer in pints!! ;) long live the queen :P

i personally use to work my fuel at miles per litre, much easier to work out how far you gonna get.

What is the point of a specious headline like "The illusion of mpg"? Just how is it illusary to say that 80mpg takes you twice as far as 40mpg on a gallon?

or that if you divide mpg by 4.5 you get miles per litre (or just quickly divide it by 5 at the fuel pump to get a quick figure). you can switch your display between l/100 and mpg on the settings if you have maxidot.

so what is the point of mpg Unit of measure

Neither equate directly to the units we use. We buy it in litres but our cars measure the distance we drive in miles, so whatever we calculate fuel consumption in, there will still be a compromise, as either the litres will need to converted to gallons or the miles converted to kilometers.

It's personal preference really, so just to be different I often do quick calculations on miles per litre.

just wondering if there was a way of re programming it to show mpg as mpl instead?
