Help. First timer after advice please...

Featured Replies

Hi guys, Im after some advice on detailing the car. Sorry in advance for the long post...

Ive had a few quotes for doing the work but the more I think about it the more I want to attempt this by myself, learning something in the process. :)

Ive already invested in a few bits but wondered if someone could advise me on how to proceed; this is what I have access to currently:

Meguiars G220 with Complete Menzerna Kit

3M 3434 Masking Tape

Meguiars Hyper wash

Valet Pro - PH Neutral Snow Foam

Sonus Ultra Fine Detailing Clay pkg/2

Sonus Glyde Detailing Clay Lubricant

Meguiars Last Touch

Handi-Hold Bottle (947ml)

Chemical Resistant Sprayer

Microfibre Wash & Polish Mitt

Sonus Ultimate Detailing Towels Pkg/2

Blue Perl Microfibre Applicator Pads Pkg/2

Meguiars Foam Applicators Pkg/2

Foam Lance - Karcher fitting

Chemical Guys Wet Mirror Finish

Poorboys Natural Look Dressing

Collinite #915 Marque D'Elegance & Carlack Kit

So I have some kit but not really the confidence to use it!! :o

Am I right in saying that in basic terms I have to take off the current layers of wax, condition the paint, correct paintwork issues (these are absolutely minimal though), then build up polish and then a couple of wax layers.

Is it really that simple though? Ive been reading lots in the last week and the above is what I gather I need to do. :o

However, what I dont understand still is:

:confused:How do I remove the current wax from the car (2 layers of recently applied Collinite 915)?

:confused:What are the purposes of glazes and sealants?

:confused:What exaclty is and when would I use the Carlack68 Nano Systematic care?

Any advice would be greatfully recieved.

Currently, this is what I have in mind:

Wash with Karcher foam lance and my PH neutral snow foam

Mitts and 2BM for wash

Clay with Sonus wax and spray lube

G220 with a Menzerna 5" compounding pad and light cut Menzerna Polish

G220 with a Menzerna 6" polishing pad and Menzerna Final Finish

Chemical guys wet mirror finish

Two layers of Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance

Please, please tell me if I have this totally wrong or whether I simply have some things in the wrong order!

A month ago I didnt even know what the difference between a polish and a wax was! :o

Thanks in advance,

Lee

As for removing the old wax try claying the car.

DIdnt have the guts to post up on detialing world but I'll have a look for more questions to answers. Thanks for that.

I didnt realise claying would effectively remove the current wax? Thought there may be a solution or liquid i'd have to use to 'erode' it?

Thanks again,

Lee

Lots of questions there mate and it seems you have a lot of products so I would suggest you follow some threads on DW, such as my own really and it's fairly straight forward.......

Some time, patience, effort, determination and access to Detailing World and you'll be sorted
