Problems with lights/steering

Featured Replies

I,m having 200 1.4 16v fabia, the problems are with the lights flicker & the steering goes "hard" but only briefly, I,ve lifted the bonnet and heard a strange noise like a pump not working, dzzz dzzz from the relay near where steering liquid is. The lights flickers in the same frequency/sound as that relay sounds. The lighs in front, back and inside car.

Thank you

First of all look if you have enough liquid, if you do have enough liquid and the problem presists you might have the same problem as me, ps that noise means you'r pump is working, that is normal to hear the pump working while you steer but not when you don`t, have you noticed something on your dashboard like when the steering goes hard does the light that indicates that there's a problem with the power steering light up?

i mean do you solved the problem, or maybe you just have the same problem and don't have the answer? :)

Nope I haven't solved my problem yet, but when my liquid was running low I had a simmilar problem, just for the sake of it look for the liquid first, the flikering lights can also be caused by the alternator so you'll also need to have a look at that too

I've checked alternator at service, they checking them. It's fine. The sound is coming from this relay, here's a picture of it: ImageShack - Hosting :: detaleuh9.jpg the frequency of sound coming from it duplicate flickering lights. I asked at local dealer and they said that part is controls cooling, ventilators or smth, but how it;s related with the lights...

Ps if you're not far from a Skoda dealer give a go there for a diagnosis, it's not that expensive, this way you'll save time eliminating the causes

ok, or maybe i'll try to find that part and change with mine. the new part from dealer costs about 100 euro, so if i could find from crashed car i could try, otherwise it would be cheaper to go for diagnosis as you said..

Because everything is electonic and need curent from the battery, even the pump from the power steering is fully electronic, if something goes down it messes with the whole cars electronics, and our nerves of course :D

Also if you want cheaper parts try to look for after market ones, they are sometimes well below half the price of what the dealer offers, this way you can get cheap parts with warranty, the only problem is that you'll have to check were they are made to stay off from those made in Turkish, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh or other strange places because those won't last more than 1 week

Has your power steering light come on?

I had the locking up thing, and it was really hard! It turned out my steering rack had run dry due to a leaky steering rack. It's now been topped up and is working fine again, but for how long I don't know. I'm on the lookout for a replacement rack now.
