A day with a Superb II

Featured Replies

My Octy II was in for a service t'other day.

My local dealer excelled themselves by handing me the Dealer Principal's new Superb instead of a Fabia as the courtesy car.

2.0 PD TDI 140 bhp with DSG,

No external spec' badge but seemed to be fully loaded...

heated leather seats, dual zone climate, Columbus touch screen sat nav etc etc ...

Did over 100 miles, called in on some mates, all of whom loved it, in terms of fit & finish, toys & gadgets, interior space, magic carpet ride quality. Also the "Twin Door" being a particular delight ... "why hasn't anyone done that before?"

The DSG was quite a revelation to me, as my previous experience of Automatics has been that Torque Convertors, simply convert torque into that "vawooom"sound.

However, DSG (as I guess has been explained on here before) seems to be a proper gearbox, but an electrically operated clutch.

The speed to revs seemed to mirror the transmission in my manual Octy.

The changes were generally exceptionally smooth & it rarely seemed to pick the wrong gear, but quickly changed if it did.

In fact, I've subsequentally been in a 2.0 TDI DSG Passat and the same comments apply about the DSG. I really couldn't see, any reason to buy the Passat over the Superb (save the existance of an estate version).

As to the ride & handling of the Superb, it's clearly designed for comfort, smooth as silk, whisper quiet, even some Lincolnshire backroads couldn't unsettle it. However, it can hustle along nicely if you're in a hurry, in fact a very good overall set-up.

Now if I could just move my house slightly, so it would fit on the drive,

then there's just the little matter of buying SWMBO flowers & chocolates everyday.

Any ideas what the lottery numbers will be on Saturday?

sounds great, it's going to be difficult now to decide on another octy vrs or the 'new' superb when the time comes to change in a year or so !?

Nope, as good as Hortons are, this was Hayseldens in Doncaster (about 1 mile from my house). The rest of my family are in sunny Scunny though.

I just need to move to a house with an 8 car garage, so there's space for the collection & a bit of room to work too.

me too. was up to 6 cars and a caravan at one point this year. now down to 4 +caravan !!

hortons might have a good reputation but their pricing is way off the mark. no -where near the deal i have gotten elsewhere.
