Problems with Lowering on 16's?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, can any problems occur when lowering say 35mm on the 16" wheels with regard to gorund clearance etc and can the standard shocks on the vrs handle the drop? or is it much advise to use 17" wheels when lowering?

No.

-75mm and only subframe issues on speedbumps.

Lissy is on 16's gone down 45 with looooooads of daylight left under car - will be dropping to at least 50 maybe 55. Thats on a Classic not VRS tho.

Cheers guys, any recomendations on what spring to go for? i.e Weitec or Eibach etc etc.

Springs or Coils?

Oh and P.S... Lissy is 5mm lower one side than t'other I will take a piccy for u to laugh at before we sort her on Sunday

The drop will be fine. When going to 17's you use a lower profile tyre so the outer size of the wheel remains the same anyhow.

Eibach springs are very highly regarded especially with Koni dampers.

As Cheryl says coil overs are a good option, especially if you want to tinker about at a later date. A bit harder maybe than some set ups but its the way i would go.

Harder is a fluffing understatement if you drive down country lanes to work every day - but i wouldnt go back and change my decision even now

-35mm is for homos!

I ran 16's all the way down :)

If your lowering 35mm or more i would also recommend changing your shocks too as just springs will cause more wear on your standard shocks.

You wont have problems with ground clearence, im down 75mm and as long as i dont go mad, its all good

when changing a fabia vrs's standard springs to Eibach springs do you need to change the shocks also or will they be ok on the new springs? it will only be a 30mm drop, 75mm is way to extreme for me. cheers

Well the VRS is lower than a standard Fabia anyway so your 30mm will actually be X amount lower again.

The standard shocks are fine on Eibachs but don't be surprised if the ride is a little harsh and if they wear out quicker. It's a much better job uprating the shocks at the same time as the performance of a full Eibach set up or Eibachs and FSDs is awesome compared to standard and the ride is much better.
