What does a slipping clutch feel/sound like?

Featured Replies

Hey folks, as thread title says just want to find out really as lately when I change gear while pulling the clutch and pressing down on the go pedal I get a mechanical groining noise, I think that's best how I can describe it. It doesn't happen all the time but it happens often enough to get on my nerves.

With my car kicking out about 290lbs/ft torque and hearing this is the limit for the standard clutch was beginning to think it might be on it's way out after 2 years?

Any thoughts?

Well my clutch slips very badly (about to be replaced)

No noises, only thing that happens is, press the accelorator...the revs rise, but the speed doesnt.

And if you're being too keen, it may stink a bit too ! :D

Yeah I know it can smell quite bad when hoofing it :P Not something I do often though

So it doesn't sound as if the clutch is slipping then as the speedo still rises (I think, doesn't feel like the car slows at all anyhow)

So does anyone know what it could be then? Like I said the best I can describe it is I press the clutch down, change gear (It usually only happens in low gears, 2nd and 3rd to be precise) then when I press the accelerator and bring the clutch up there's a long, mechanical groan as I pull the clutch up. It usually only happens when there's low revs.

Any ideas?

DMF, unless you changed it for something more robust? Mine blew up and although the clutch wasn't too bad, I replaced both

I dunno (Is that the Dual Mass Flywheel?) the car's standard owned it since new so don't think anything was changed? Should I just book it into Skoda then? I'd hate to like as trying to book anything tinto there is a nightmare :P
