French Grand Prix scrapped from Formula One calendar in 2009 as financial crisis bites: Formula One - Telegraph

The French Grand Prix has been scrapped because race promoter the FFSA - French motorsport's domestic governing body - does not believe it is possible to run the event profitably.

The race has lost money for several years and the FFSA does not want to commit to a potential financial risk in the present economic climate.

So will Bernie put Canada back onto next years calender?

Doubt it, the cost of getting over there for just one race would be rather prohibative.

Plus Bernie isn't renowned for changing his mind

It's a bit of a blow to Ferrari as they usually do well at Magny-Cour.

Surely that gives a good reason for Germany and Britain to invade France ... all in the name of international motorsport you see.

TBH F1 costs so much to run that I don't see the attraction, but then I guess that's just me.

The sponsors/teams are starting to think the same way ;)

I read that they were looking to try and get back into the USA and we'll see an India GP soon too.

I think they should do at least 2 races in the states to make carting everything out there worth while (which is what they used to have until Michelin designed a tyre that didn't work).

I don't know why they don't look at an east coast race and a west coast race, or better still a race from east to west coast :D

Have to agree with the comments about the costs to the organisers / sponsers, etc. Bernie has got too greedy :thumbdwn:.

Clearly the costs of maintaining an ex model wife who is 28 years his junior and 12" taller than him, are more then he budgeted for.
