About to place my order but need something clarified

Featured Replies

Borrowed a 2.0tdi 140 Elegance manual today from my local dealer for a 30 minute test drive. Overall I was very impressed (especially with the ride/handling on 18'' wheels) and went to discuss options for ordering one. My preferred colour choice would be Rosso Brunelli with Ivory leather and black carpets. The dealer reckons the black carpets can't be ordered with Ivory leather, the best I could do would be to pay for black mats. I was sure that I'd read on the forum that black carpets can be ordered with Ivory leather though. Can anyone clarify this point please?

A couple of interesting items from the test drive and discussion. The model I drove had '3 flash' indicators, one of the members was complaining about this omission, so perhaps it's been addressed by the factory.

Delivery time is now quoted at approx 12 weeks from order so I'm looking at Jan 2009.

Regards,

Black carpets and Ivory leather can be ordered. I'm guessing your dealer just doesn't know how.

Check out this thread for pictures of a UK car that does have what you want:

This is a function Skoda call convenience indicators, and it can be turned on and off using the maxidot display. I'm guessing that the car you mention simply had it turned off.

Thanks Bagpuss, I'll tell the dealer to check the order procedure and print that pic to show him.

Thanks Kilkenny, all good evidence to convince the dealer, if he's not sure I'll ask him to take it up with Skoda UK.

i have ordered mine with the ivory leather and black carpets. i have seen this combination in the showroom car at wakefield skoda and in the pics referred to above by bagpuss. its not obvious as if i hadnt come on this forum then i wouldnt have known it was possible.

I am in the process of finding if i can now order black seatbelts as well !!!

Well if you can't get black carpet just get some scotchguard once you have the car and fit mats as a secondary measure, personally I think black carpet against an ivory interior won't look anyway, and at the end of the day all s/h cars are worth tosh anyway.

I'm pleased to say I've now placed my order and got the spec I wanted on a manual Elegance 2.0TDI 170. Added front sensors, heated washers, mats, upgraded speakers and boot nets to car in Rosso Brunello with Ivory leather & black carpets (dealer had to give in gracefully!)

I may now have to wait until the end of Jan 09 to get the car as it's so popular.

I want it now!!!

That's a lovely car you've ordered and I don't want to p*ss on your parade but do you realise that for £70 more (as you've already specified front sensors) you could have Park Assist which includes front sensors?

Dan

Did you remember auto-dimming rear view mirror too?

and heated washer jets. only £30. every car should have them !

Thanks for all those suggestions. I wasn't going to bother with the park assist but the dealer pointed out that for the £70 upgrade cost I might as well have it so I relented ( I think he was still a bit sore after I pointed out the black carpets issue!) I have ordered heated washers but I deliberitely didn't go for the autodimming rvm, I find they take away too much rear vis. I would hate to miss the one remaining Police traffic car coming up behind me on the motorway (not that I ever speed mind you...)

anyone know if you can turn the Auto dim rear view mirror off ? In my passat you cant but in my A6 you can (there is a switch on the bottom of the mirror). perhaps there is a setting within the maxidot ?

I have a mk 5 golf with the button on the bottom of the mirror to turn the auto dimming function on or off. I assume Skoda will use the same tech. Although I would never use it it seems an odd omission on the new Superb when the door mirrors are auto dimming as standard. Guess they thought they could make more money on charging extra for something some people might consider a necessity. Each to their own.

my B5 (2001) passat doesnt have the button. maybe they have progressed.

It has the button on the bottom of the mirror.

BTW I have the car with the black carpets, had my last superb with ivory carpets and what a difference. The whole car looks better imho with black carpets and Ivory interior.

I agree with you jambo. My current Superb has a black interior and carpets. I ordered ivory with black carpets after seeing the combination in some demo Jags - where it seems to have been in use for some time.

If you don't want the auto-dimming mirror and you're only going to trade it in then fair enough, but if you were selling it privately and I was looking for one, I would pass it by in favour of another one which had it. It's only £50 and you can turn it off. Incidentally I'm keeping a note of who's ordered cars with the spec I want so I know who to keep an eye out for selling them in a couple of years. :)
