Looks like its Lamda probe time

Featured Replies

Polo 9N with BBY engine - engine management light on - scanned with VAG-COM codes 17591 and 17604 logged as intermittant, two days later same thing. Used search and have come up with the thinking that its probably an internal fault with the first probe. I'm just posting this in case others find they are having the same problem - previous thread on this topic was about 2 years ago, I'll report back once I'll bought a new probe, fitted it and ran the car for a week.

the probe went on my 2.0 fabia because it had a horrible missfire which was allowing unburnt fuel into the exhuast

any ideas how much these things are to replace? I have codes on Lissy that indicate mines prob gone, shes in for 60k service monday so will get them to check it out then just wondered how much on top of the service I am lookin at ?

I'm guessing £130 for part and 1/2 hour labour + a code read/clear - so about £200 at dealer prices would be my thoughts! I'm guessing that it just needs the hot air deflector plate removing before changing the probe.

cheers dude! god damn money burning things.........

Well I've disconnected this probe's plug<>socket and both ends look clean - sprayed some WD-40 in and connected<>separated a few times - still getting same codes so ordered new probe (not held in stock by VW dealer as very few have failed so far - I'm just lucky!).

Well I fitted the new pre-cat Lambda probe on Tuesday evening and so far no more sensor fails being logged. The old probe's heater "looked" okay while cold - but that is no indication of what it was doing to the sensor when hot. Cost was about £109 + VAT and it was the same make as originally fitted at factory - ie NTK. BTW, I costed a replacement from an on-line Lambda sensor supplier and they were charging just a wee bit more + p&p - so it looks like the dealer is best source for that item.
