tyre warning

Featured Replies

I have just had all 4 tyres on my VRS special edition replaced due to the inside walls of them perishing. The tyres had done 22000 miles when I got a puncture in one of them. When it was removed from the car the inside tyre wall had severe cracking from the centre to the outside of the tyre all the way round. On inspection 2 more of the tyres were the same and the 4th tyre was showing signs of going the same way.

These were the Continental Contact 2 tyres fitted to the vehicle from new and although the fronts were down to 4 or 5 mm the rears still had 7 mm of tread left.

The tyres are now with the main dealer awaiting a response from Skoda customer care and Continental.

My real concern is that any of these tyres could have failed at high speed with no warning.

Any one else ever checked the inside walls of their tyres? Now might be a good time to look if you have these fitted.

I've ran conti's since buying my vRS back on 2003 and havent come accross that particular problem I'm afriad mate.

its another reason to regularly check your tyres and the tyre pressures.

22000 miles and still have 4-5mm of tread left!

Have you put a typo and should have read 2200?

sounds like the rubber perishing.... maybe they were an old set of conti's that were stored outside somewhere before being fitted to the car... see if they get back to you with some kind of "contribution" to your new tyres....
