Bill so far was 460... plus shes gotta go back in thursday as they couldnt get some parts (and wanted their courtesy car back :( wouldn't have grumbled at drivin a 1 year old furby around till they fixed her)

Shes had new front bushes and somethin else today (on top of service). Havin a new gearbox (WTF!!!) and thermostat housing on Thursday. And i still aint had my front tyre done either really must do that friday before i go to York.

Brought her end of May, she is a 2001 tho so gettin on a bit now bless her. And i have put 8k on her since buying her...

Do love her tho. And i always say would rather spend out on a car i love and know everythings sorted properly than buy another and then have all the same things wrong anyway. I intend to have her now till she dies so not fussed aobut " gettin my money back " on her or stuff like that.

New gearbox at 60k!!!

I think you might be better off finding a good mechanic. Sure you might not get a courtesy car (I don't) but I just take the car there and hang around as I'm usually not busy.

What engine has your Furby got BTW?

60k prob having the cambelt changed too.

I Agree! Don't go to Skoda with an older Fabia cuz it's not like you've got a warranty to maintain.. I bought a 2001 a couple years back and had quite a bit of trouble.. some age related, some millage related and some previous owners bad repair related,..

I counted it up the other day.. I spent £2500 a year over 2 years just in repairs (not maintenace or running costs)

I'm sure yours won't be anywhere near as bad but a big chunk of above was paying dealer level labour costs on my first big repair (steering pump @ £888 all in).. skoda were 80ph.. the guy I found (and stil use) was 40ph and has a compatible dianostics computer.

That's what you've gotta look for in a mechnainc and/or local garage I'd say.. (otherwise they'll be getting freelance blokes in to diagnose problems)

Sorry such a long post.. just thought I'd share my experiance in the same situtation!

Rob :D

Neither of our Fabias go anywhere near dealers, and now the rules have changed on warranties, no car we own in the future will either! ISTR you have a 1.4 MPi, so it won't have a cambelt to need be changed. It does have a chain, but that'll only need to be done when it gets so loud all your fillings drop out! :D

Are all these things the garage has said need changing actual problems you're aware of? Things like 'stat housings have definite symptoms, so I'm wonder whether they're having you on (although my wife's failed at around 60k to be fair)! If you're worried, I can find out the specified labour timings for the work they're supposed to have done...???

Did you notice any problems when changing gear? any difficulty, grinding etc? If not i doubt it needed a new box, that would be something you would notice, surely?

I am happy that these things need doing TBH as the guy pointed out on her stuff for me as "I seemed to understand"

I thought there was some kind of issue with fuel mixture, said no probs with that but the thermostat issue explains it. I also was aware that my revesing lights were "temperamental" - hence the switch in the gearbox (I read his paperwork and they only quoting for replacement switch). I knew the bushes were split as I noticed when winding coiles down last week, and lets face it my dampers are full on hard so I am always gonna get faster wear on OEM suspension.

Usual repairs I will always go to RSM in malvern as they always treat me really well. Servicing I guess it was a mindset to go there as shes got a full skoda history - not that i'd ever think of sellin her, I drive cars untill they die before i consider gettin a new one.

Have they done the work yet? I have a set of consoles with Cupra bushes prefitted. Surely you can get the other half to put them on rather than fork out at the dealer, plus they will be better than what they will fit anyhow.

They've done the bushes already unfortunately (and believe me i was throughly told off for not leaving it for him to do) Its just the switch and thermostat housing they are waiting on for thursday.

Well consider yourself told off twice.
